I have a question, So I am working with about 350 acres of northern wi whitetail property. I want to put some apple trees in there this spring. I thought I would order 12 trees. I have 4 different plots (real plots) on the property, last year they were buckwheat/rhy/ clover in the summer and brassicas in the fall. I was wondering what people thought was better... 1. To spread the trees around the 4 already established plots (sets of 3-4 trees)? 2. Maybe focus on 2 plots (6/6)? 3. Start a new space for a orchard (12)? In other words do I spread the love, or keep it to once concentrated area... what would you do? Thanks!!!!
wow…i'm sorry…i couldn't get past the "i am working with abut 350 acres of northern wi whitetail property."
Ok lets try again... I want to put some apple trees in there this spring. I thought I would order 12 trees. I would at least split them into two spots to spread the pressure out if your planning on hunting near them some day. Make sure they get alot of sun from south and east or they will grow slow.
Option 1 or 2 with 2 being the best. Remember having more trees at a location will help with pollination. Apple trees around plots are a good idea and I am doing the same thing this year.
I would spread them out I hunt 8 acres with 4 apple trees and each tree always has deer under them. They do require alot of attention to produce well every year. The deer hit the trees year round they can be seen digging daily in the snow for rotten apples during the winter.
