Welcome aboard Rut Junkie, we were starting to worry about ya. Welcome to team 13. We are still trying to figure out our team name. I think most of us don't care but here are some of the possibilities: Apollo 13 Lucky 13 Whisker Biscuits and Gravy BonehHead Cut Above Tree Stalkers
Hey guys, I did what I thought was best and brought in an arbitrator to handle this situation. He considered all the team names and decided upon Apollo 13. I'll provide a link below to show you how he came to his decision. I hope you all will be satisfied with the name Apollo 13. If you have any complaints, I can forward them to him. Looking forward to a great hunting season!
So just a refresher, seems at least one team has an issue with this each year. Rule #3 is VERY important to this contest. 3. All entries must be accompanied by a minimum of TWO (2) photos of the hunter with the deer and your archery equipment in the picture. If you can manage to take one picture, you can also manage to move 4 feet to the side and take another one. It's not that hard. There will be NO exceptions to this rule. Two photos with hunter, deer, and bow in photo or it won't count. If you submit a deer without two photos, it will not count. Consider this your warning. This goes for both does as well as bucks.
Here are a few from back in July from my friend's farm in Ohio. I don't have any from PA as I seldom put trail cams out on public land. We are scouting a new piece of private property this weekend and putting out a camera though.
Nice deer coop. Here are a couple of my own. They were taken in my backyard at a mineral site I made.
Hey boys, so here is the property behind my house. I wanted to ask for some help out here. I have owned the property for 3 years now and I have permission on my own and my neighbours land. I showed the whole land in the red outline. The pink line is a horse trail that the other neighbour who actually owns no bush allows his riders to ride. The neighbour on the other side who I permission in the bush has said to me if I stop the horses from cross the back end of my property then he won't allow me to hunt on his side. So that pink line shows the horse trail. I have seen deer on these trails numerous times, but that being said horses are always their too. So I want to avoid their trails. The purple arrow on the left is the direction of the prevailing wind. In the deer season cold fronts will usually bring a northern wind obviously. So keep that in mind when looking for stand selection. The yellow outline is a 1 acre food plot directly in my backyard. Deer do use it, mostly does. Although come the rut I get bucks showing up randomly. They usually hang out for a day or two and are gone. Majority are showing up on cams back their at night. Although every year on a random day I see a day time picture, or I am watching tv and see a nice buck back their. See I believe the bucks come from across the road because all summer long I have nothing but does. I have no scrapes or rubs anywhere back in that bush. No buck sign at all!!! Come Halloween I have a different buck everyday on camera. Monsters come daily!!! On that plot that purple dot I put his my elevated hunting house. The light blue area is a place I have had tons of pics of deer in that time of year. Again I think they come down to that corner to scout out the does. In 3 years I only caught a does and 1 yound buck. Although again in that field I have seen some big boys. So some more info, the southern half of the bush you can tell the trees are a darker green. That is all planted evergreens. This is THICK!!!! I needed to hack trails just to get through there. I think I might go in and make some more this weekend just to allow some walking lanes for myself and deer. Season is not until October 1 so I'm sure they will settle down by then. The top half is all tall hardwoods, once October rolls around their is zero leaves and visibility goes a long way. My theory is they bed right behind me in the think jungle and maybe move to the field to the east to feed, or to the hardwoods to the north. Also you can see water on the north and east properties. What are some spots you guys think I should be in? and whats my best way in? I think everytime I tried hunting in the bush before, I walk through my back yard and probably spook everything walking trough the bedding. But if I walk up the west field I will wind the entire bush won't I??? Thanks boys
Chaco, Pines & tines my friend. I used to hunt a farm surrounded by mostly hardwoods. I had mixed success until I focused on the pines. Once I set up in the pines, it was deer city. I did exactly as you mentioned and cut a series of trails though the trees.
