This thread is dead lol. I have been hunting some in PA. No shots yet but I've been seeing deer, trying to get zeroed in to arrow a doe, hopefully by Saturday. The early muzzleloader seasons comes in on Saturday here in PA so for a week I may not be in the woods much. I hate wearing orange and the crowds.
Quick update. We have a major cold front coming through tomorrow. High of 47 on Saturday. We have four new shooters on the farm. I'll post them soon. Looking to take out a couple does and maybe a buck this weekend
Good luck to all you guys, I had two does under my stand Tuesday night, both were mature. I let them pass because it is the same property that I shot the doe on that the coyotes got. At night, I lowered my bow (you already know when a story starts out with I lowered my bow, that it's going to be bad) and was packing up all my camera equipment when I heard something crashing in the woods coming right to me. I was thinking to myself, please don't be the huge buck please don't be the huge buck. Thankfully it wasn't, it was a coyote. He came in to about 8 yards, by the time I pulled my bow back up he was gone. I think I'm going to need to get me a hand gun or something, lol.
That's crazy. I don't rember getting a cold front like this for a while. Its been in the 40's before but not lows in the 20's
Sorry boys, work keeps getting in the way of hunting hahah I won't be back in the deer woods until last few days of October. I am leaving tomorrow for the far north! Rifle Moose season is open!!!! Moose is not open until Monday. So Saturday I am sure I'll be busy setting up camp, collecting wood, water etc. But Sunday I am sure I will take my bow out there and see if I get lucky with any cruising deer. Up there we already have snow on the ground so I'm sure the boys will be moving. Then Monday thru Friday is rifle moose, and I got a bull tag in my pocket.
Snuck in on a nice buck a couple days ago and waited him out until 20 minutes before dark when he finally stood up and flirted with giving me a shot. He slipped off into the brush just up the hedgerow from me. I know he comes by my stand sometimes as we have pics of him but I lost the coin flip that night. He isn't the biggest buck we have on cams but he's on the hit list for sure. Back at it Sunday.
I was skunked last night but it was a beautiful night in the woods. A couple pics on the walk to my stand.
This isn't easy to confess but I had this deer between 15-20 yards at 8:30 this morning I had a doe bust me earlier this morning. she came in from my southeast and caught my scent at about 25 yards. The buck started to come at me from the north east but then decided he wanted to get down wind a scent check he was to my east just a few yards away from where the doe had been earlier. I could have thrown an arrow at him at 15 yards. But at 10-12 yards to my right is the property/fence line and I don't know who owns the ground on the other side. I had to just watch him for a few minutes. He wanted to hop the fence but new something was up. He finally caught my scent and blew out. I was so mad I took down my tree stand and relocated it. That buck probably won't travel where he did this morning for quite some time. I ended up moving my stand by a creek and in between a rub line. Maybe I can sneak in on him tomorrow morning. I won't be near a property line in my new spot!
Nice buck. Your story is why I won't even set up near property lines unless I have permission on the other property too.
Out in my climber for the first time this year. Kicked up a deer on the way in. Joe bear, are you anywhere near coffeyville in SE Kansas.
There is a job there i may look into and relocate there. I will have to do some research but I may reach out to you if I get serious if you don't mind?
It's been a really slow start to the season for me. I hoped to have a doe on the ground already, but I'm having nothing but buck encounters...yearlings, 2.5 year olds and one 3.5 year old. Almost had a chance at a doe yesterday but she picked me off in the tree. From where she was and the position of the sun, I'm pretty sure she saw a glare from my camera lens. Trying again this evening. The rut is about to kick in. I have a buddy that raises deer just down the road from me. His bucks are starting to go crazy so it's close. Usually his bucks aren't acting like this until early November. Gonna be fun the next few weeks!
Yeah I will do whatever I can to help. Just moved here in May. So far so good. It's a small town with some larger cities not too far away (Bartlesville, Tulsa, Joplin).
Quick weekend update. Had a major cold front come through. Thursday night saw 3 bucks. One of which being a shooter. 120" 8 point. Friday night just a few does. Saturday was very windy but still cold. Deer movement varied. We only saw a few deer but we know of 2 bucks being shot and 2 misses by friends. This is one of the bucks from a friend that was shot. On another note there is a guy that hunts one piece of property that we hunt and he said he saw a 150" 10 point walking through the woods. Needless to say we might be moving some cameras in there to see what we find.
That is a great buck ! Im having a slow start to but I'm hoping with the weather change things get better. Any of you guys try ghostblind out at all or know anyone that has im thinking about getting one just curious to see what others think
