I was just curious as to how much you guys (or people you know) are paying for an apartment or a rent house. The wife and I our moving out of our two bedroom apartment and into a 1700 sq ft 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. It's got a 2 car garage and a nice sized storage shed out back. Plus a pretty good sized backyard. We move in a week which is great because we have run out of room!

    Apartment- $550 a month

House- $650 a month (a steal for around here!)

I have been looking at houses to buy, but we won't do that for a couple years till the old lady is finished with dental school

    I paid $800/month for a 2 bedroom townhouse for a few years.

My buddy in Houston pays $1,600/month for his 1 bedroom apartment.

I would say that you got a pretty good deal.

I'm in the process of purchsing "my" first home right now. The kicker? My wife owns a small condo she had before we got married, and because my spouse is a homeowner I do not quality for the 8K tax credit. :mad1:

In any case, around here a 3 bed 2 bath 2 car garage home like that would most likely rent anywhere from $1200-$1600/month depending on how old it is and where it's located. And they're selling for $190,000-$225,000 depending on the same criteria.

I've got a lease on a house up at school next year but it's a four person lease. We're each paying $345/month, or $1380/month total, plus water/electricity/internet etc. There are several houses that are cheaper but we went with something a little bit nicer. They kinda stick it to us price wise since it is a college town.

I'm in a college town like Brandon, but the prices aren't too bad (I think). Me and 2 other guys are renting a 1500 sq ft, 3 bedroom 2 bath house that is only 3 years old. $1200/month plus bills (about $500/person per month).

It sounds pretty similar to your house Jim. It has a 2 car garage and a nice backyard, also an empty 1 1/2 grass lot adjoining the backyard.

When I was in college, me and 2 other guys shared a 3 bedroom apartment that cost $325/month. I paid $100/month b/c I got the small room.

We lived in the ghetto, to say the least. :d

Justin, you can buy my house in C'ville (it's really Lake Marian!). Dropped the price to 169,900 down from 210,000. (waaaahhh!) :(
Half acre. Four bedrooms. Brick Ranch. Can shoot your bow in the yard. 3.5 car garage.

I looked at house down here the other day.. 5300 square foot house, big barn, 10 acres with oaks and a creek. Could pick it up for about 250,000. 5300 sq ft with 12' ceilings. It's neat but probably a bear to heat and cool. Besides, I can't afford another house until I sell my house up in Chicagoland.... which the way things are going.. will never happen. (waahhh.. again)

The house I'm in now is on 3.8 acres. It's a small 2 bedroom home. (130 year old farm house) 30' x 40' garage. It was $120,000. Not a bad price in my book and the best part is that it's a long way from Chicago. :D
