Looking for any options I may have to help out the deer and the crazy amount of ticks we have here in missouri. I spray my yard with bifethrin to kill bugs but I do not think its a great idea to spray my food plot with it....thoughts or any ideas to help these guys out. Fawns eyes are always loaded and deer are loaded behind the ears and head. 20250701_194557.jpeg 20250701_194629.jpeg

Nature being nature is my guess. Not sure how you can stop it or if you even can.

Maybe contact your DNR and see if they have any preferred methods for tick control?

I found cedarwood oil is very effective but also expensive.

I know I've seen rigs, near feeders, with rollars that applied permethrin. A couple were custom built but I think somebody had/sold a commercial unit. The big challenges keeping the rollars damp and 'training' the dee.

There is a similar setup for cattle that uses a resevoir with ropes attached.

I have sprayed food plots before with Talstar pro in areas with extreme mosquito issues. It’s important to not only spray the ground, but the trees surrounding the plot as well. Not sure if it will work the same on ticks, but it had great results with mosquitoes.

    Damn just lost that post
Ok NYSDEC had a tick bait station program some years ago. Your state may have one , give them a call and text them your pics.

We use tempo on the front glass wall of the house it is expensive but you spray a perimeter around the plot there will be insects alive that cross that line. We get the bugs at night with the lights on, that draws the spiders. Nights we stay up late I have to take the leaf blower to clear the dead bugs on the patio the next morning. It works great to keep and out of your trail cameras I also use it on the Shepard hooks the humming bird feeders are on to keep ant out. It doesn't just keep them away it kills them.

I recall back in the 50s that guys would put powdered sulfur in and on their socks and on their legs.

I forgot to add if you do apply Talstar or Tempo get an attachment that hooks up to your orchard sprayer, has a tube that goes to a venturi fitting on the end of your leaf blower, it works great for getting spray up into trees and brush but also helps with ground applications. I treat the yard with Talstar and you don't need bug spray to sit by the fire pit but when you go to the end of the dock to feed the fish the mosquitoes are insane.
