Tired of the short range of my trail cams for field plots.I ordered a primos dps food plot cam yesterday Looks like more of what i need for long range plot scouting. Here is a few specs no-flash, no pir sensing. Takes a pic every 5-10 seconds and will use up to 32 gb sd card also 4 to 8 AA batterys with zoom fuction
Supposed to have great battery life and good pics up to 200 yards and they are much cheaper then a trail cam at less then 100.00 to my door. $50 for a 32gb/sdhc card but i would need one for a cam anyway ad says less then 3 min to look at a whole day pics, with that range i have high hopes.

Anyone have one of these yet.

    here is a review. http://www.chasingame.com/index.php?id=223

well the cam got here friday, i ran it for 24 hrs here at the house, zero noise so i put 8 AA rayovacs in it and a 16 gb sd card in it and put it out in one of my soy bean fields and will check it next week. The nice part is it has a 72 degree angle and i put it about 150 yards from the edge of the field so i should get a good idea where the deer are coming into and exiting the field without having to scent the place up. Stands are already up in the prime spots here but i am going to get some info from this cam for future sites. The cam is set up in 10 sec mode and shuts down from 10-2 to save on battery and sd room and has it's own daylight sensor so it only takes daylight pics so it should be a good one.

I've been testing 1 of these for 2 days now. So far all is well. It took me a couple tries to figure out the photo viewing software. For the price i can definitely see where a cam like this will come in very handy! Im anxious to get this out in the field and see what it can do.

What brand of sd card are you using?

From what i've read on other forums is that there hasnt been any problems with a sandisk 16 gb class 2 or a adata 16gb class 6, you can get the adata cards over @ newegg.com for 22.95 free shipping.

I've had trouble with two Scandisk Ultra 8gb cards I bought from Office Depot. I reformatted the cards and the DPS would only work for 30 mins or so before shutting down (I have 2 DPS units). I called Primos and they mentioned it sounded like a card problem but didn't have a list of name brands or cards to use/not use but they offered to take the cameras back. So I tried cheaper Kingston cards and they appear to work fine.

The DPS units as compared to Plot Watcher: IMO there's not much difference in the picture/video clarity (I also own a Plot Watcher). I prefer Plot Watcher's software but I prefer the use of SD cards in the DPS. For the price difference if the DPS units prove to be as durable as the Plot Watchers I will be a Primos customer for a long time.

I'll run more tests with some different brands and sizes of sd cards and post all my results here.

After doing just about everything I could think of and calling Primos both units are going back. I just can't get them to work more than 2-3 days with 8gb or higher SDHC. From what I read on another forum there is a problem (see link to chasinggame below). My guess is Primos used older firmware/tech in an affort to keep the price down. The problem with that is unless you can buy older SD cards you're out of luck AND older SD cards for the most part don't exceed 8gb and 8gb isn't enough memory to run the unit as intended. Hopefully they'll figure this out and update next years unit, until then I'm going to try other brands.

Academy allowed me to swap (with a little more money) the DPS units for Moultrie M-80. These are hybrid camera-plot watcher units. I'll try them with the newer SDHC cards and report what happens in a week or so.

I have used a 16gb sandisk sdhc class 4 and a 16gb adata sdhc class 6 with no problems.

I wish the units I bought worked with them but they don't and since Primos put out a FAQ I believe they know there's a problem. This isn't rocket science, there shouldn't be any problems using memory cards of any class up to the maximum capacity with a brand new camera off the shelf. I haven't had any problems using the same cards I bought (thank goodness they are expensive) with any other cameras.

When you post your full review I'll be interested to read if you were able to fill any card up to it's capacity.

I'll try the DPS again when they update the model, IMO this may be growing pains and I hope they learn from it.

Edit to add photo of cards that did not work in the DPS.

I'll put a 16gb Adata sdhc class 6 card in right now and see what happens. The longest i've ever ran a DPS is 2 days and never actually filled a card. I set this 1 to take 1 pic every 5 seconds so we'll see in a few days.

I wrote about this in post #15, I couldn't get them to work more than 2-3 days (at different settings). In theory the DPS (with the 32gb which it's supposed to handle) should run 20+ days depending on the setting. The way my units tested 2-3 days with about 1.5 gb of data was it. That's not even close to being acceptable for a plot watcher camera.

If my unts filled the 16gb cards with data I would have been satisfied because more than likely even lithium batteries would die before the 32gb card could be filled.

Either way good luck and keep us posted.

When i stopped the last test the sandisk card was 51% full. I dont remember how many images it took. Anyway the test i started today using the adata 16gb sdhc class 6 card is still goin strong!

I was wondering how you formatted your card? Did you do it through the DPS or did you do it though the computer? Primos directions state to do it through the computer which i've never heard of. If you do it through the computer dont do the quick format.

    I'll keep you updated.
