Well, it'd be illegal to use one for "hunting" purposes but I do have one that I can get out of the woods with or cook a meal in camp over the stove with. For what I do with it the LED that runs on 'AAA' batteries works well and is light weight.

I use this one and I will never own another one. http://www.rei.com/product/791312

I've used several different kinds of headlamps and this is by far the best I've used. It's bright and is great on battery life. Highly, highly recommend!

No, not using it to "hunt" with obviously. Something to get into and out of the woods and also to use as a tracking light.

Great info. This puts out 10 more lumens than the one I linked above and is 1/2 the price. I wish it was rechargeable but I can live with it not. So it is brite enough to track with Phillip?

Yes I've tracked with it and it is plenty bright. I am super happy with it.

I actually purchased mine from my local D!cks Sporting Goods. I believe I paid $39.99 for it there.

Used them in the military. Used them in Fire/Resuce/EMS. Use them for hunting.

They're a solid addition to a sportsmens "tool box".

I second the Petzl Tikka 2 Plus. Long before I started hunting I used to be a ranch hand out in Wyoming and I bought a Tikka 6+ years ago. I wore it almost every night doing something on the property. I've used it camping, hiking, chopping firewood in below zero temperatures, even reading at night with it on the lowest setting. Still use the same one today. I had that thing for almost 3 years and used it constantly before I even had to change the batteries and it went right back to being as bright as the first day I bought it.
Headband is worn out but still elastic... dog even chewed it up a little when he was a puppy. Don't get any other headlamp. I have had a few over the years and the Tikka beats them all hands down.

I have a few different headlamps, including a Petzl. Mostly used for fishing, but I do use them if needed when setting up, or taking down, my climber. Good brightness and battery life. Not sure if all models do, but the model I have takes AAA batteries, instead of a "specialized" battery.

I should also mention the one my daughter is wearing in the photo is 10 years old, and still going strong. They make a good headlamp.

I appreciate all the help guys. I've already placed my order Tikka 2 Plus. Can't wait to try it out.

I have a Petzl and they are great. Mine is older and a bit heavy, but works so well that I just can't get rid of it.
