I was thinking if I put a decoy out in front of me like it was feeding it might draw the other deer to it or at least calm them a little. I've never tried it so looking for any advice from someone that has.

Or would they be too spooky this late in the season to try the deke.

Good thought, John... If you did, I would definitely add some sort of material for the tail that would blow in the breeze a little. I'd think that a "stiff" decoy at this time may give them cause for concern even more so for the same reasons you're thinking...

I got "Scarface" for Christmas. He has the bobblehead and the fluffy tail. I was thinking of putting his nose on a corn stalk.;)

Sounds like a great strategy buddy! It'd make a heckuva story if it worked! :)

John, I've stuck white tissue on the tail and ears. It seems to work pretty good and moves with the slightest breeze. If you caught a Buck in the right mood it still might work.

    Good luck!!

Something I've always thought about John, is putting him about 75 yards away. Put yourself between him and where you expect the deer to come from. That way they'll get close enough to shoot and not ever have to really get spooked by the decoy. I don't think they're like waterfowl... they haven't seen near that many decoys...

I'm thinking about taking some turkey decoys out with me. Lighter and easier to haul around than the deer decoy and I've noticed deer seem to feel more secure when there are turkeys around.

    It's a thought anyhow.

I'd use a small doe decoy. Place it 30 - 40 yards out, facing away from you. I was told that the bucks will come in to check it out at half the distance. 15 - 20 yards from you. Bucks aren't much interested in fighting these days. They'd rather have easy pickings like a doe fawn.
