Thought I'd try something for bear hunting so I collected a good bunch of Burr oak acorns with the intentions of grinding them up and using them like a honey burn.
Took awhile but I used a pliers whilst drinking a few cold beers to crack n crush them up.
Once done, I simmered them in water for a few hours, strained them and than put them in the freezer.
However, they had a Great, nutty smell and got me thinking that deer may go bonkers over them??

I saved the water which also smells great and might experiment and spray some and hang a cam too see.
    Never know

Certainly an interesting idea. If it works you may have just stumbled upon a million dollar idea if you can market well...

I wish I had some land to test homemade concoctions like that. I've got tons of chestnuts on my lawn right now. If I could bait, and had deer hunting land, I'd pile those up and set some cams out to see the deers intetest levels.

It's a sawtooth oak. We have about 12 acres of them.

I wonder if acorns is one of those things that you have to be right on top of them to smell...like carrots or broccoli
