Just got back from a very short yet successful hunt with my 8 year old. We killed a BB and while he was extremely excited there's something not quite right about this deer. It seemed healthy walking around but when we got to it I noticed his back side is completely matted with crap. Really not sure what to do with this deer, don't want to waste it but also hate to feed it to my kids if there is some illness causing this. Please take a look at the pic and tell me if you've seen this before and if you know what would cause it.[IMG]

maybe he forgets to lift his tail? Does the meat look bad? If not I wouldn't hesitate.

I would guess that he had the runs and it just got hung up. Not really sure, but I doubt the meat would be bad.

Could be from whatever he was eating, the impact of the shot usually causes them to...well u know..

It looks like it could be the result of a "Cornholer" overdose? lol

I've seen deer with the scours before that were messy all over their backside. I imagine it's from a protein rich food source that they aren't used to or just a change in seasonal diet.

Never seem that Maryland. Looks like a whole lot of crap to me. Maybe call a butcher for advice?

We have calves that do that from time to time. It's usually a combination of a loose stool caused by diet and laziness when lifting the tail. It really isn't anything to worry about from a diseased meat standpoint. I share this because I've found that cattle and deer share a lot of common behaviors.

Deer are just like us and can have the runs from what they eat, im sure the meat is fine.
