Just curious......anyone here planning to shoot some spots this year? I know hunting season is just around the corner, but I'm already starting to think about building my setup for the 08/09 indoor season. I'm trying to force myself not to buy a bow though until the 09 models are released......:d Anyone else planning on shooting indoors this year? Anyone going to be involved in any local leagues?
Im gonna join the Cumberland Bowhunters Club in Jan of 09'. I am planning on purchasing a new hunting rig that I can go both ways with. I will be paying close attention as to what I need to be a better shot!! I look forward to all the advise I can gain from you target shooters!!! I currently just own a strictly "huntin" bow. I shoot great with it, never really won any shoots with it but that has never been my intention. I feel with a lil better equipment and more shooting time throughout the year I could try and compete with anyone if need be. I have been shooting for 12yrs and have never exactly cared about drilling dots but believe I may be up for the challenge this year!!:d We will see how it goes may not be for me????
I'll be shooting a indoor 3D at Full Quiver. Not sure where I will shoot spots this year. I want to get on a couples league so I can shoot with the wife.
Anybody have interest here in participating in a Bowhunting.com indoor league? I'm starting to get really antsy to shoot indoors this year. With our 3D season over, I don't have anything target oriented to do in my spare time right now. My shot has evolved a bit since last season and I'm expecting to see an increase in my scores......I'm anxious to test myself and my improvement though to see if I've become more consistent. I'm fighting the urge to buy an indoor rig for the season right now, I want to see what comes out for the 09' lines before I drop $$$ on a setup. gplant, I'll be shooting an indoor 3D league this year as well. I'm really looking forward to it.
Yes, I will shoot spots this winter. May also shoot an indoor 3d, it is just killer the shop is an hour drive. If I don't have someone to ride share with, between paying to shoot and gas I will have $35 bucks a week wrapped up in the shoot. Although, I am in no hurry for indoor shooting to get here
Just got word of a shop I didn't really frequent in the past is moving to a new warehouse. Get this, they are moving even CLOSER to me now! It will allow for out to 40 yard shots, will have two levels of shooting lines, and basically blow anything we have around this area out of the water. Now if he would only carry Hoyt again. Indoor 3-D is suppose to start this winter and I am sure they are going to try and get a Vegas or 300 League going. All and all, this will be 15 minutes from my house.....cannot beat that!
I am actually thinking that I will be joining a local archery club that has indoor leagues. If I join the club I will definetly be shooting league!
Yes, it is a ton of fun. The largest club in our area (1000+ members) hosts a breakfast every Sunday morning and a indoor 3D shoot downstairs. They draw in 500+ people for the breakfast, and close to 100 shooters. I've never joined the actual league, but have shot as a guest many times. It's just a great event to keep you busy in those slow months of the year.
I shoot a couple different indoor annual tourney's a year but the local archery shop has a deal every Wednesday night that they call quarters. Anyone who wants to shoot just needs to bring a pocket full of quarters...It is similar to shooting spots, but the closest to the spot gets the money for that round, it is a blast and if you don't win any you aren't out a lot of money but the money keeps it interesting. Normally there is from 20-40 guys shooting on any given Wed. night, each shooter puts a quarter into the pot and the one closest to the spot gets the pot of quarters for that round and re-peat till everyone is tired....
For years I ran two complete different set up's...For target (small peeps, small pins, light arrows)..These days I still have at least two different bows but they are both set up for hunting (one for a back up) and I use the same set up for both activities. I still have a target bow but I haven't shot it in a couple years...
Yes, absolutely. There are different classes you can compete in, and some classes will have restrictions on the type of sight you can use. I compete in Open classes for both 3D and indoors, so there are no equipment resrictions on my sight. For spots, I shoot an Axcel AX3000 with a 9" bar. For the scope, I'm using a CR Apex "Target" scope housing (1.35" diameter lens), with a Feather Vision Radura lens. I have both 4x and 6x lenses and will experiment with both this year to see which I like better. I'm currently shooting a black ring on the lens instead of a pin and like that a lot but may consider going back to a black dot instead. For 3D, I also shoot an Axcel AX3000 with a 9" bar. I'm using a larger CR Apex "3D" scope with a 1 3/4" diameter lens. I'm using a Classic Zeiss lens, it's honestly the best lens I've seen for lack of glare, and clarity, it's on par with my old Swarovski lens that comes in the Sure Loc Black Eagle scope and costs far less. For 3D I use CR's Razor fiber up-pin assembly with a .019 green fiber in it, and I also use their sunshade extension, it really helps with those shots where you would otherwise get glare off the lens, it also keeps the fiber shaded so that I can add the amount of light I want with the LP Pro Light I have installed on it so there is never that sunburst effect from too much sun. This is a pic of my 3D sight setup:
Thanks. That is awesome. I'm an old recurve guy. I've seen some of this stuff but not known much about it. I can remember shooting 3-D with a guy (years ago) that had the micrometer adjustment for yardage. I asked him what he had in his bow and he gave me a break down of each component. "Yikes!" He had more in his sight than I had in my bow, quiver and gas tank. LOL Now I'm shooting a Bowtech and trying to learn what's what with this equipment.
