This is my first ever attempt at this and it appears I got a late start. Looks like I should of started a few weeks ago. I am just going to tap 3. I did 2 yesterday but busted the lid to my third when I was drilling the hole through it. So I will get that one done today. I have no idea how fast they drain so if I can get 20 gallons out of the three I will be happy. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
I went back up to my place last night and couldnt believe that between the two I had about 4 gallons in just under 24 hours. Hopefully I wont have any trouble hitting 20 gallons. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
Looks like a sweet setup you came up with. As long as it keeps freezing you should get 20 gallons of sap no problem. Make sure you're storing the sap in a cool spot, out of the sun, it can spoil.
Cant believe how fast they drain. I got another 5 gallons in less the 24 hours. What do I do to plug the tree when I'm done? Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
Don't worry about plugging the holes, I never did and the trees are fine. Once it no longer freezes they'll be done flowing, they need that temperature change to pull the sap up. I used to do 300+ taps and can think of one tree we lost and who knows if tapping it had anything to do with it.
Started boiling this morning. Ended up with 15 gallons so far and just plan to let it go for another day or two because it is getting so warm out now. Boiling is going well and a little faster then I thought it would hopefully I can get through the 15 by tonight but not getting my hopes up.
