Heh, your just a bit late. They are made by Double Star, not as well known but identicle in every aspect to DPMS.

I picked up a box of 5 of them to keep one and sell the others to fund the project. The other 4 were accounted for in less than 4 hours of receiving them. It seems that everyone knows the ban is coming and is trying to get theirs ASAP. Parts are selling for an all time high right now and are hard to find.

I've always wanted to build my own AR, and figured I would just buy the stripped lower now before the Assault Weapons Ban Reauthorization Act gets traction. If Clinton did it, I'm sure Obama will pull it off again and it's already in motion. Since the lower receiver is the only part with a serial #, it's the only part that will be affected if they reauthorize unless other laws are put into affect. Now that I've got the lower, I can buy everything else I need through the internet off the AR forums without doing any paperwork with an FFL.

Plans are to use the following parts:

Magpul CTR 6 position stock - green
    ERGO Grip - green
    RRA lower parts kit
Will throw out the stock RRA trigger and replace with a Timney 3lb single stage

Once the lower assembly is together, I'll likely sell off my current 10fp in .223 to fund the exact upper that I want. I'll build the lower, but I want to have either D-Tech or Dan Carey build my upper for me. Plans for the upper are a 20" Shilen barrel, Hogue floating hand guard (green), along with the Armalite one piece scope mount. Not sure what kind of glass will go on it, but it will be something at least decent. I'll post more pics when I get it together.

Just bought a DPMS lower parts kit. Gonna scrap the trigger assembly and grip right away, should have all the lower parts here in the next week or so.

Can't wait to get this thing. This should be the coolest toy I've had for quite a while. :)

    You've done your homework. :d

It seems like every toy you own, you know the ins and outs of them.

    Good luck with the buildup.

When I was looking, I was seriously considering a RRA rifle as I don't know much about other parts I would swap things out for. I figured I knew RRA was a decent platform to start off and I could take off from there.

So, when you get it complete, I would like to see the finished project.

A cousin of mine had an AR with a night scope on it. All I gotta say is when he would bury dead cattle behind their farm shop, he wouldn't have any trouble picking off 10-15 coyotes a night. :deer:

Just ordered the lower parts kit. Ended up getting a steal on a DPMS kit so I got that. I suppose it doesn't matter much, the grip and trigger are going to get thrown away anyhow. Will post pics when I get it assembled.

Unfortunately, I don't have the money to buy anything right now. I'll wait someday for the "new" pre-ban things to go on sale.

I've got a flat top upper minus bolt carrier that's a bushmaster 20" V-match barrel, aluminum handguard, never fired. I bought it when I was going to put my own together and I never ended up getting the lower to do so. Let me know if you are interested.

Do you have pics? Do you know the twist rate is in it? Does it have the lug/flash hider on the end?

I can post some pix later tonight. Off hand I don’t remember the twist rate but I can look it up, it does not have a flash suppressor.

Matt, are you going for 5.56x45 or .223?

Depending on what upper I go with, I should be able to shoot both.

I'm pretty seriously interested in Ryan's upper because it's honestly one of the best out there.......one of the few out of the box uppers that are of similar quality to a fully custom setup. I should be able to shoot both from that, I believe Bushmaster uses a SAAMI spec chamber which essentially has a bit longer of a throat to accomodate the longer bullets typically found in the 5.56. It is different than the NATO chamber specific to the 5.56 though, and really designed with shooting both in mind.

With that said, I'll probably just shoot .223 ammo out of it. I've found Black Hills red box loads to be as accurate as any handloads out there, and you can get them for a great deal. I've already got several hundred rounds of brass from them too, and if I keep building the collection someday I'll eventually get a reloading setup and have a lot of matching brass.

Yeah, that's what I was curious about. I thought the SAAMI chamber was for the .223 and had a shorter throat and less headspace (which is why you can't shoot 5.56 in a .223 chamber)? I've always loved ARs, and would love to build one some day. Too many projects, not enough money now:d I would love to shoot one of these. Can't wait to see yours when it's all said and done. Can I shoot it when it's done:d ?

Sure, I'll have you up at some point to the cabin and I'm sure we can find something to plink at there. I've got a nice 320 yard poke in front of the cabin. I'm sure we can find something to shoot at. :d
