Sort of I guess , I gave up the compound for the most part. Longbows and recurves these days. I'm having more fun getting closer rather than shooting farther. ( hunting that is)
Shoot at 10 yards so you can keep the pin on target and squeeze the trigger instead of punching it when the pin gets on the target. Once you get through that, back up in short increments, and quit when you get tired. By all means, quit when you get tired. I've been in your shoes, many times. Shooting when tired makes it much worse.... I got to the point where I would only shoot 2 arrows without a rest, and quit after about 6-7 groups.....
I'm a CPA, I come out of any funk when we start talking money!! I was fiddling and tinkering in the man cave this afternoon. I had to buy a new rest at 10PM on Saturday the 28th the night before a 3D at 8AM the next morning so I knew it would be a rough shoot but not as bad as it was and lasting as long as it did. I had robin hooded and only had 5 GTs and I wanted 6 matching. They were out of my arrows and I picked up some low end Carbon Expresses. The vanes on these CEs have no labeling at all but they're right at 7/8" at their highest point, my GTs are around 1/2". I got to looking and wondered how they made it past the cables. I put lipstick on the vanes and they were hitting the riser. I've been altering everything and moving my this new rest all over creation. I set center shot back to original got the GTs back out and all seems to be back to normal. I got the calipers out and those vanes off the CEs come in at .7603" and the GTs are .5178. I would have never ruled out getting a case of TP, but in the back of my mind I was thinking to my self that I wasn't having trouble holding on the target or getting nervous, etc. I was just getting super annoyed that form, aim, shot execution and all of that seemed fine and my arrows were going everywhere. Shot 20-30 arrows this evening and it was great and relaxing. Leaving for this audit in Chicago and won't shoot for almost a week, so I'll have a little break. Thanks for all of the support and laughs!
I'm still perplexed that I missed this - also not trying to beat a dead horse hopefully it helps someone down the road. Here are the GT Velocity Hunters measurements: Arrow diameter = .309 Arrow diameter + vane height = .6721 (This is for all three vanes) Calculated vane height = .5176 (very slight difference than freehand measuring in above post) Here are the CE Heart Attack measurements: Arrow diameter = .303 Arrow diameter + vane height = .9115 (This is for the two off vanes) Arrow diameter + vane height = .8889 (This is cock vane only) Calculated vane height = .7608 (Off vanes) Calculated vane height = .7374 (Cock vane) My center shot has been .762" since I got it and I can see how those big fletchings wreaked havok on my center shot. I know most Mathews bows like a center shot in that 11-13/16" area so I guess I need to keep fletchings in that .600" area.
Its the small stuff that gets us most of the time. I am glad you found it though and its good to hear that you had a good shooting session today.
Many great shooter go back to bails from time to time. I'm going to be shooting blank bails myself this week. Answer to your question, yes but the thought of that next hunt keeps me going. Push through it.
