    Hey all,
I am new to to hunting (been shooting my bow for four years), and cannot afford a tree stand this year.
My father is giving me a ground blind that he never used, so I plan on using that for fall turkey and for whitetail hunting.

It seems like the ultimate setup for whitetail (using a bow) is for a tree stand, but can anyone tell me that they have had success using a ground blind?

I know that where there are few trees, people use blinds, but in the East, do any of you use ground blinds?
    Thanks!

I've killed 3 does from my ground blind in the past few years. Mostly on field edges and in food plots. Haven't closed the deal on a buck yet. Hoping that chabges this year.

I just set mine up for the IL season last weekend. Brush it in good and leave the mesh on the windows, especially if you are setting up and hunting it the same day. If you set it out in advance you can probably get away with black windows.

I do with my son all the time...

This year we will both hunt from a stand, but I just got a nice new HUGE ground blind for us to hunt from.

    Absolutely.

Opening day a couple years ago I took a deer a couple hours into the hunt with my son by my side out of a ground blind.

I put the blind up about a month before season and brushed it in. I think putting it out early allowed the deer to get used to it there. Unfortunately we got a heavy snow later that year and crushed my blind. I do plan on getting another one and will not hesitate to hunt out of one if put in the right place.

There is nothing wrong whatsoever in using one for whitetails. At least it gets you out there rather then sitting at home waiting to get a tree stand.

I have one and use it when I feel the need. I've taken a few does from it. It's just another tool in my arsenal.

    Best wishes this season.

Yes I do, I have killed 3 deer from the ground without a blind at all but I love hunting in them. The adrenaline is more intense imho.

Yep. I've killed deer out of a ground blind. In fact, I just set one up the other day in a spot I have a good chance at killing an early season buck. They can be deadly in the right spot. For turkey? They're absolute venom.

I gun hunt out of my blind during the PA rifle season regularly. Especially in the very cold and wet weather. I also bring out the propane heater to fend off the cold, just like sitting in the living room waiting for the deer to come by.
