Thinking about what to get for my equipment in this upcoming season. Considering buying a ghillie from Cabelas. Anyone have any experience with one?
Prob a little over kill, deer only pick up on movement usually. To each is own though wont knock you for trying it.
I love ghillies for hunting on the ground. Just a couple of words of advice. Pack it in and put it on when you get to your spot because they are hot and will grab any and everything in the woods. On the same line don't try and track a deer in one. Also keep them dry and clean, even the ones that say they are mildew resistant can get a smell to them if you don't take care of them. And like any heavy or awkward hunting clothing make sure you practice shooting with it on. I like using them like the post before me. Ground has been my most success. I went on a hunt with a guide in Illinois (won a drawing) and one of the days he says he has been watching deer move through a draw in a cut corn field and there was a small patch of small dead bushes that was in the middle of it. He suggested using his ghillie suit and hunting the bushes. To my amazement I had 7 does walk past me sitting on a bucket less than 4 yds from me. Made me a believer in ghillie suits. My dad and I both got one as soon as we got home. Good shooting!
i use a 3D leaf suit for turkey hunting and i will wear it in early season while bow hunting if im in a stand with not much cover. not sure if it helps any tho lol
Use one for coyote hunting. Like already said tho they are kind of hot and catch on everything when walking around much. Haven't ever used it for deer though but would be pretty good if your hunting from ground.
Ill wear a leafy top sometimes. Cut off the leafs on my left forearm to keep the string from hitting it n
Yes! I hunt some in a ghillie. If you're looking for something a little different and more challenging then give it a try. I've had some really cool stuff happen while wearing my ghillie. Had a buck almost run into me, birds land inches from my face, squirrels within an arm's reach, etc. And here's the hunt/kill that made me realize I wanted to hunt in a ghillie suit. Killed this buck within 10 yards from the ground. one of my most memorable hunts.
