currently we have a Kubota RTV900 and that baby does just about anything you want it to. It has hydraulic dump bed, power steering, and of course a wicked powerful Kubota diesel in it. it's very noisy so not the most practical for hunting (but great for working on stands & hauling deer outta the woods). It's got a Curtis snowplow, (basically a smaller version of the pickup snowplows) for the winter. prior to the RTV we had a Polaris Ranger 400. Nice one too, but the Kubota is more practical from a work perspective. The thing with the Polaris is that it has far less torque & cargo capability, but is a heckuva lot more fun 2 drive than the RTV. Try comparing a school bus with a corvette and thats what you get when comparing the Ranger and the RTV. most of the neighbors have Mules which are OK vehicles but the RTV is better the ranger is VERY fast (about 55 mph top speed) the RTV is lucky to hit 25 mph downhill. anyone else have one? if so, what do you think of it?
Been thinking about getting the Polaris Ranger and comparing it to the Can Am Commander. No direct experience with them though.
If you're going to get a Ranger, get the 500cc. Problem with the 400 is, its a carbeureted motor that is real finicky about starting in cold weather also, not alot of cargo space and/or seating. those are 2 reasons why we switched to an RTV900. I wouldn't worry about power in the 500, all of the rangers are like rocketships and I personally think the 800cc is way too powerful for most applications. The 500cc is probably the best one as you get the full-size frame with EFI (which is the best feature, period) and more than enough power. as for the can-am, i don't have any experience with those but they don't look really practical from a hunting perspective. more like RZRs
