So I'm looking for a pair of pants that I can use next year during my rifle hunting trips to the big woods up in the Adirondacks. I'm looking for a couple of things that are most important to me........ First they need to be comfortable for hiking long distances. I'm typically doing 10-12 miles on foot every weekend up there according to my GPS. I'd prefer something that will stretch a bit, so it doesn't restrict movement. Lightweight is important too. They also have to be durable. A LOT of the ground we are covering is woods that have been logged in the past 1-5 years......briars and small trees up to your arm pits. Ideally I'm looking for something that will not be shredded in a year or two in this environment. Last thing I'd say is important is that they at minimum need to be water resistant or coated with a DWR, and be able to dry extremely quickly. A lot of the ground we cover as mentioned is chest height young growth and you get soaked in there. I don't know if I want waterproof as that often means it doesn't breath, but it's gotta dry quickly. Temps are going to be typically in the 20-50 degree range. I'd rather get something lighter that I can layer under when needed. I have the right base and mid layers to make just about anything work in most temps. As of now, I'm looking at the Sitka Timberline pants, and the Kuiu Attack pants. I'd also be willing to consider something else if you have a suggestion. Anyone have experience with both that can make a recommendation based on what I've outlined above?
I'd go with Sitka Mountain or Timberline pants as they are more proven and more aesthetically pleasing to the eye lol. That said I haven't heard anything negative out of Kuiu users yet either.
Check with Rob (elkhuntnut or something like that?) He's used both extensively and may even be on staff or a dealer for the latter of the two.
I have the Sitka Ascent pants and I really like them. Quiet, light, waterproof, comfortable, and stretch. But I'm not walking any 10-12 miles.
