Gonna be 33 with a 3mph NNE tomorrow morning and I'll be the only one out on the spot I hunt. Tomorrow is looking good, anyone else getting out?
Yea, but it's the 4 days gun hunt here, so I hope to pop one this weekend, along w/my boy. We had one come by tonight about 20 yds, but to damn thick w/foilage to even see it. We could hear it clearly, & found it's tracks in the horse trail that it crossed.
I really wish I could get hte day off work tomorrow. I won't be able to get back out till the next weekend! Good luck to those of you getting out!
I'm probably going out in the morning. Supposed to get down to 38 degrees. Won't kill the mosquitos but it should slow 'em down.
I will be going out Saturday...Supposed to be around 34...Bucks should start firing up here soon. I am saving my time off of work for the 2nd week in November...I will hunt em hard that week!
I'm gonna be doing the same thing! It will be my first time ever using mine....AND I've had it for about three years now.
Out for the morning hunt, North winds switching to NorthEast should be fine it will be one of my first cool mornings as it will be freezing temps.
i'll be out a week from today (fri) my first sit!!!! had a bad dream last night that i forgot my harness (must not be prepared fully yet)
Good luck to all you guys that got out this morning. Can't wait to hear success stories. Off to the office for me now. (this sucks)
Next friday will be the first time I'll be able to get out also. Glad I'm not the only one. I can't wait.
Just got a text from Peak. He has a lady on the ground! Wisconsin boy layed her out with a gun though! Way to go T!!!
This evening (friday) then all weekend for me. Good luck everyone.. warmed up here a bit the past couple days.. grrrr
I went out. Had a doe offer me a 20 yard slightly quartering away shot, which I took. Looked like my arrow hit too far back so I was pretty unhappy. She took a couple jumps and then walked off stopping 40 yards from my stand. She looked woozy and then I lost sight of her. Meanwhile her fawn milled around near my tree. Seeing as how I need two antlerless deer in order to shoot two bucks, I decided I'd shoot the fawn too. The fawn dropped inside 30 yards. Anyhow, I waited an hour and a half and then climbed down and snuck off. Came back with Deb and Drew, (the guy in charge of the deer hunt on the University property). He's training a blood trailing dog so he wanted it to try the easy trail from the fawn. That was kind of neat to watch. Anyhow, the mama doe dropped another 10 yards past where I last saw her so that was a big relief. (it was a liver/1 lung hit) We let the dog find that one too. (even tho' we'd already spotted it) That little dog was so excited. Out the 55 hunters hunting this property, only 9 or 10 of us have gotten an antlerless deer yet. (14 total taken including my 3) So, I guess I'm lucky. I was a tad bit dissapointed to see that the fawn was a button buck. I guess because I was mostly looking down at him, I didn't notice his nubs. Oh well. The whole point of hunting this property is herd reduction. Mama doe. (stiff as a board) Nubbin' head. (easy to carry, tender... what's not to love?)
