Anyone ever use straight ammonia in scrapes?

The reason I ask is because my brother-in-law was telling me about it a couple of days ago. Undoubtedly a guy that he knows told him that you can pour straight ammonia in a scrape or in a mock scrape and the deer will absolutely wear it out. I realize urine turns to ammonia over time but I didn't realize that a deer would react to straight or pure ammonia. Anyway, my B.I.L. text me today and said he went out and checked the scrapes and the deer were wearing them out. He got a few pics of a nice 8 point and that was his first pics of that buck. Also he got several pics of does and a couple of smaller bucks. He also made a mock scrape near his stand and poured the ammonia in it and said that there were tracks all in that scrape as well. You can get ammonia at Walmart for about $2 so I guess I'm going to see if I can give it a try. Anyone else ever tried it and had any success?

I've thought about it before. At that price though i would just mix vanilla extract with the ammonia and poor it into the scrape.

Interesting. I may use one of my cameras to test out this myth...

I'd say it's worth $2 to give it a try.

A few years back (well, maybe more than a few..mid 1990's) it seems like the general consensus was that, when the urine based scents started to develop a strong amonia smell, it was time to get rid of them. If this proves true, maybe some of the scents I've been throwing out, over the years, weren't bad after all. Good luck.
