I'm currently in quite the crappy situation in my current apartment lease. We've had our apartment sprayed 4 times now and it seems as though it has no effect. I believe the problem is one of our neighbors as we keep our apartment very clean. My girlfriend and I have been here for two months and we've finally reached our limits. We signed a lease with another apartment complex yesterday and are moving next Friday. We're hoping to be able to get out of our current lease without having to pay their outrageous penalties, but we'll see what happens. It may be something that ends up going to a small claims court... We spent our whole day today washing clothes at the laundromat and washing our dishes with bleach to make sure that we aren't bringing any eggs or cockroaches with us to our new apartment. It's such a pain in the @$$ and every time I talk to our property manager I want to choke her because she says we haven't given them ample opportunity to address the problem. I'd say that when you start finding cockroach droppings in your silverware drawer, dishwasher, cabinets, etc. that it's become a health concern and not a good place to be in. I probably kill about 20-30 a day. Sorry for the long rant and thanks for hearing me out... It's extremely frustrating and regardless of the outcome, at least we're moving in a week.

Anyone else had problems like this in a prior lease? If so, how did it turn out?

Yea I know that. They actually did spray our whole complex as a mandatory spray one of the four times. What they're wanting to do now is a "special treatment" where they spray into our walls. What pisses me off is the fact that they're just now offering this treatment solely because we told them we were starting to look for other places. It should have been offered after the second treatment not having an effect. The special treatment they're doing is also only going to be between my apartment and the neighbor suspected to be the root of the problem that I was told by the exterminator, so it still won't be a whole complex treatment. Is it expected that I should let them do this and wait a month in what I feel is an unhealthy environment to see if it works? I feel like it's a waste of time because the neighbors can still live their same messy lifestyle and things will revert to how they were.

To be honest If possible I would just move if not I know the whole process is rough and you will have dead ones appear after they do that for a couple of weeks. I had some friends who had very similar situation and eventually just moved. Especially if you have kids and pets I would just relocate

You have had much more patience than I would have. I would have taken plenty of pictures and documented my attempts to have the situation corrected, and then bailed! No way I'd deal with that any longer!

Yea we're at our wits end and are bailing regardless of what happens with the early lease termination. As said, we already signed a new lease and have a moving truck coming next Friday. It's gotten to the point that I wake up at night and can't fall back asleep because I know if I go out to the kitchen and turn the lights on I'll be able to kill about 10 roaches and it drives me nuts. My girlfriend is taking a heavy course load in grad school in a challenging problem and has plenty of stress already without it. I could go on and on but I'll spare you guys. They've said some pretty stupid stuff in reply to some of the things I've commented on and I'm more than happy to share everything with the university attorney if it comes to it as well as the county health department.

The treatments don't work, that's the thing. We've foubd about 5 dead since the last treatment but 5-6 times more than that daily that are alive.

Yup, gotta get the whole place sprayed down. Take pictures and document emails and conversations, they have to provide a habitable place for you to live and 2 months is plenty. They should be pretty understanding if roaches is the problem and you're wanting to leave, after all they don't want the bad press and all. I lived in Hawaii with indoor roaches at my new house, you justcan't help it in Hawaii. After getting my house sprayed and setting out traps and washing dishes regularly, never saw them again.

They build those places like crap and their probably coming in through the ground and gaps in the cabinets and pipes.

When I renovated my home I put borax in all the wall and foundation. We never spray and never seen a live bug in our house in 13 years. We also never live food in around or in the garbage.

Good luck. I'd move out as well.

Cockroaches gross me out. Makes the -30 degree Minnesota winters worth it not having those things crawling around my house.

But...you're doing the right thing, get the heck out if there.
