I'd love to do one of these next year... I'm shooting to be as in as good a shape as I can be for next year's jaunt back to the Colorado Rockies to chase elk around again... I've admittedly let my cardio slip a bit as I've focused on weightlifting mostly all summer long... got my bench up to 275 according to most one-rep max calculators and added quite a bit of muscle, but I'm about to start slimming it down while trying to keep as much muscle as I can... Ran my very first-ever 5K this past Saturday (I absolutely HATE running) and am using that to kickstart my butt again. I'd love to use this event to focus towards... what's more, I'd love it if a few guys from here would commit to it and we could do it as a bit of a team... maybe get JZ and the guys to give us some "Team Bowhunting.com" t-shirts to compete in or something. Here's a link to the event if you've never heard of it... http://toughmudder.com/
I was gonna this year but it didn't fit my schedule. I am planning on it next year for sure. Mggt even try to do a late season one this year still if I can even walk after Ironman! Sent from my T8788 using Board Express
4 friends did one in Wisconsin this year. All four said it was one tough mudder! One prepped every day for 6 months and is in good shape anyway (state trooper here), he said since he did it for charity, he's glad he did it, but odds are he won't do it again. He's 42.
One word.. Crossfit. It will build your cardio, make you stronger, and make you more flexible and mobile. A lot of the people in the crossfit community do these types of mud runs. I am starting to see a trend of more in-shape hunters and less and less out of shape hunters. Have fun with your run.
I would love to try one of these events. I have always considered myself as the type of person who can push through anything, no matter what. This would be to deciding factor.
You want to do something to increase your cardio? How 'bout what I did in 2004. I put on a military uniform with combat boots, I added a 40lb rucksack and marched the 26.2 miles of a marathon to raise money for Make A Wish. I ended up raising enough to sponsor 2 children and after all the training and marathon, I had no problem hiking through anything I wanted to.
I have a friend that did the Tough Mudder in GA and he said it was very challenging. This guy is in great shape and runs a lot. Personally I have not done the Tough Mudder but did a local run called the Mud Run which is real similar just a shorter distance and not as challenging of obstacles. I had a blast doing it and will do it again next year. It is a fun change of pace in running.
I don't know about Tough Mudder, but I'm planning on doing a Warrior Dash next year: http://warriordash.com/
we did something similar to the tough mudder as a physical training event for our Brigade every 3-4 months though we only did about 5-6 miles instead. pretty rough going and will wear you out. we did it on the Thurday right before a 4 day weekend which was needed for recovery. fun times
After doing much research I have found several similar programs to the tough mudder, but nothing in Montana
