During all the "Hot Hours" I'm in the stand. If the weather is off, or haven't seen much ill walk around.
The guy obviously has no clue. The 1,000's of hours I've spent over the past 25 year's...scouting, studying maps, finding hubs and edges, identifying food sources, picking up sheds, running trail cams, finding beds, learning how the wind works in a specific location, planning my entrance and exit, prepping the perfect tree...that is the hunt, slipping in and climbing a tree is the kill.
Look. I'm not trying to talk down on anyone here. And believe me i do understand the skill it takes to pull of a successful hunt any way you do it. Stand hunting requires a ton of patients and is a skill of its own. A skill I don't have. Maybe I did try to stir the pot a little. But I sparked a good conversation I feel. It's interesting at least to me to see how many people here hunt from a stand compared to hunt from the ground. They both have their purpose and place in hunting. Id be lying tho if I said i thought it takes more skill to hunt from a stand adjacent to a food plot/ bait station than from the ground in the back country. And i realize not all stand hunters hunt on private property adjacent to food plots. Now hard work and dedication i gotta hand it to the food plotters on this one. They go through some serious work to bring these animals in and i do recognize that. If I could grow a food plot and hunt it legally you bet your butt I'd be there. I'd still wander the forest looking for the elusive backcountry monster buck tho because there is something that happens out out there that is unexplainable. A connection with nature that I don't feel Id get in a stand. That feeling is why I hunt. And it's delicious.
I love sitting in the stand but always find myself standing up and doing random things to pass the time.
I love sitting in a stand...well, I actually stand most of the time. Don't do much sitting. Hurts my back.
I hunt in stands, I'm 6' 1 245, and I wear a size 15 eee boot, I don't sneak around a quiet timber all that well. I sit until my but hurts then I stand for a while. Usually when the magic hour comes I will stand at the ready.
I stand most of the time in my stand. I want to try still hunting and may actually do it this season now that I've learned one if my properties well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Depends on where you hunt, if I was in a tree stand (which never happens) I think I would have to keep myself preoccupied with a can of pineapple and Bowhunting.com. I like tree stands, just hard ta mount on them cotton pickin saguaros, HaHaHahahaha
Really as soon as you get back right to the same crap. Hopefully it wont be long until your next vacation.
I'll admit me and spotnstalk have had disagreements but his post was entirely valid to this thread so I see no reason to start a problem and get another good member banned. This thread is about tree stand hunting and spot and stalk; he said he would tree stand hunt if he had something to occupy him but it is unpractical for his terrain. There was no crap there.
Angry much? My first grade teacher told us that you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar.
Curious if the spot and stalk guys have ever scouted and set up a stand and hunted out of it and been successful taking a mature deer?
I hunt whatever the situation and surroundings dictate. Different tactics work better for different places
