Looking for some feedback. We just got a 3 month old pup. I guess these are a rare breed dog. They are bred as a hunting dog.

Anyhow, just looking for some feedback if anyone has ever owned or been around one.

    *EDIT for Rybo*

Sorry about the poor quality these are just cell phone pics in a room with high eff light bulbs so the lighting sucks..

We actually saved this dog. She was found on a back road (no houses any where close) covered in scabs and bruised up, she was also covered in ticks. She was nothing but skin and bones and smelled like nothing I have ever smelled before. She had been on her own for a while.

She has some sort of emphysema from some trauma she went through (hit by a car, thrown from a car, beat by a person or something similar). What she has is air stuck between her skin and muscle. When you touch her it feels and sounds like rice krispies popping (although the popping is painless to her the Vet says).

We found her on Saturday morning (just couldn't leave the poor pup there in that condition) and took her to the Vet first thing Monday morning to have her checked out. She has a laundry list of problems but they are all fixable (emphysema, hook worm, bruises on her stomach, scabed wounds etc)

We thought she was just a mut when we picked her up, a mix of basset hound and some sort of wire haired dog. The vet was adamant that she is a Spinone Italiano though. After much research I have to believe it is true.

She is very friendly and lovable. She craves attention and is very personable.

She is however in quarantine for a week from our other dog (a yellow lab) Murphy as to not affect Murphy with her worms and also to make sure she isn't harboring anything else transferable to him. We have to pick up her droppings each time we take her out which isn't all that much fun.

I would have done the same thing brother. I do love to hunt, but this kind of story breaks my heart. Kudos man. That just demands it.

    Cute pup.
I was going to ask how it got along with Murphy.
It breaks my heart that someone can dump a puppy out & leave it to suffer an unknown fate.

Awesome Buckeye, she will love you guys more than you can likely imagine once she has adapted to her new home. Good looking pup and it is ashamed that people do that to animals. I'm sure she will make a great addition to the family.

Murphy isn't much of a dog's dog..... Other than sniffing other dogs he pretty much ignores them. She was in the front yard the day we brought her home (after a bath and getting cleaned up) Murphy went over and sniffed her for 5-10 seconds and then went and brought his frisbee to me to play fetch.

That has been the extent they have been around one another though.

I don't know how people dump animals off either. We have had two pet cats that were strays, they both died of feline leukemia (both had it when we got them). I am not a big fan of cats, but they were both very nice cats. I think strays appreciate peoples company more than animals who were never lonely.

My Dad & I picked up a puppy on the way to work one morning. A lady he worked with wanted it, or we'd have probably had it. One of my parents current cats was found starved & clinging to life along side a road. It's now the fattest cat I've ever seen.

It looks like a scruffy weiner type dog in your first pictures. If it grows up to look the adult pictures then I'll grant it 'real' dog status. :d
It must just be the angle of the pictures that make it look like it's body is waay longer than it's legs. I actually like weinery dogs, they're just not 'real' dogs.

My "secondary" barber has one.. keeps it in the shop all day with him. Friendliest dog you'll ever meet and apparently a heck of a bird dog too.

    Supposed to be REAL intelligent.

I will say this though.. they are rather "Dr. Suess-y" looking when they are adults. His is anyway.

Looks similar to your above pic.. only LESS hair.. alot less.

Thats cool that you guys saved the dog. Sounds like you got a new dog and hunting partner. Are you going to try training it? Bird dog, shed dog, etc..? Looks like a happy pup with a better life. My buddy recently saved a dog he found out by my farm, about 2 months ago. It looks like a blue tick hound, especially in the face, except WAY smaller. No idea was it is. She was skin and bones, had worms, and was very skittish and scared, like someone had beat her. She's happy and sociable now, has a pitbull companion she follows around every step, and now she's gettin fat:d
