I know there are a couple of you... I started playing when I was like 5 and after high school golf and working at the course, I got burnt out. I've started playing more in the last couple of years but the bug is back hardcore this year. This past week I played or hit balls/chip & putted 6 out of the 7. I shot 74 this morning with a double bogey on 18 But I was thinking... about why I like golf and this is what I came up with. 1. The setting is generally awesome. 2. There is nobody to blame or praise for how poorly or how well you play. 3. It's not 6 degrees and windy all the time 4. Even when you do everything better than you ever have... you'll always find SOMETHING that you could have done better. 5. Nothing is repetitive, every single shot is different 6. 3 Buddies can join you and you dont have to be quiet. 7. It teaches you patience 8. Some (generally attractive) female brings you ice cold about every 45 minutes
Dub - I like to donate balls or as I call it hiking with clubs... Ha-ha!!! 74 and a double bogey, oh, boo-hoo! Damn that's good! I just broke 90 two weeks ago for the first time in my life, finished up @ an 88 from the middle tees (whites). So Friday I bought my wife and myself a brand new set of Cobra S9 for Mothers/fathers day. Played today and shot a 99 with them, I played with the Lob wedge way too much trying to get that sucker to work, but lack of practice killed my chipping game. Plus the greens just got aerated and we had 25-mph winds ~ yikes! So all-in-all not bad for me, considering the additional excuses I have!! Ha-ha.. A bunch of us are going to Hilton Head, SC in Jan/Feb 2010, you ought to fly up for a 3/4 day guy trip???
I'm one of the few insurance agents I know that doesn't play golf. I've tried it a few times, it's just not for me.
I never played golf until this past year I discovered a virtual golf course in the gym at my school. My roomate is a huge golfer and he convinced me to go play the virtual course with him (one of those booths where you hit the ball into a canvas wall). We played it alot and I got hooked. I started playing it all the time, and I actually had to beg my roomate to go to a real course with me. Now I am wanting a set of clubs so I can play all the time. On good days I usually keep the score in the mid 90s.
I will be out the Friday before Labor Day for the first time this year. I used to play quite a bit, but life got in the way. No biggie. I will play more later, I ain't old enough to take it seriously yet. I get out two times a year if I am lucky and it's usually for charity and I am usually pretty loose by the back 9.
I've played all through high school and had the opportunity to go play at a few small colleges but I just didn't want to dedicate another 4 years to it. I went out and played 2 days ago for the first time since October (district tournament) and I shot 78.
I played in high school and work part time at a golf course right now. Few days ago I shot a 78 with an eagle on a par 4. Holed out from about 110 yrds. Thats what keeps you coming back for more.
I get on to a course about 2 to 3 times a year now, way less than I used to, and I play what I would call landscape management !!! Any of you avid golfers should know what I am talking about !!!
Yes I play alot ..I always say there are 2 seasons, Golf and Hunting ! I'm currently a 6 handicap at www.kennsington.com We play the black tees. I certainly haven't hit my groove yet with Coaching Baseball and lack of Range Time this year. But I'm trying to change that!
Nope, not me,,,and for the life of me i cannot see whay they design Golf shoes to look so hidious They look like they belong at the bowling alley and why did they design bowling shoes to look so hidious sigh!!!! :d
I like to play but I STINK at it!! Since BC brought up bowling there's something I like and half way decent at it.
i've been playing since i was about 10yrs old... over summer I (and a neighbor) golfed the local park district course about 3-4 times a week (only 9 holes, but we were kids)... buy the time I was a Soph in highschool i was shooting sub 40's on a consistent basis... by the time I was a Sr I was a scratch golfer... then I went to college and couldn't afford it, now i've got kids and no time... I only golf about 5-6x a year now at most... if I was golfing as frequently as I used to I'd still be a scratch golfer... back then I was lucky to drive the ball 200 or so, now I hit my 5 iron 200yds and consistently drive 300+ (when I can keep it in the fairway), longest drive I ever had in my life was where I drove the green on a par4 345yd hole, ball landed on the fringe of the green and stuck in the ground (extremely wet conditions), yes, it carried about 335yds in the air (the hole plays down hill slightly so realistically on flat ground prob about 315 in the air)... but even with such big hits i'm lucky to break 90... sucks playing my dad now... he'd never golfed a day in his life until he retired, now he kicks my @ss, at least until I get my groove back (usually the last game of the year) and i'll pull one out and beat him... but that's not cuz i'm getting better, its cuz I keep close and he'll make a mistake... but i'll take it... :D
Played a TON years ago. Now, don't have the time or the desire...ALL free time goes to family and hunting. I'm sure I will again though. 40 yrs old now, when I get close to 45 I'll re-examine my life situation and possibly consider spending 4-5 yrs getting back in shape for the Seniors tour. Great sport and is more popular now than several years ago.
The extent of my golfing is going to the driving range once every year or two, renting a POS driver from them and proceeding to hack away at a bucket of balls. I then wake up the next day with sore ribs from my extremely poor form and twisting my body in ways it wasn't designed to do. My wife gets a kick out of making fun of me and to no avail attempts to give me lessons on how to hold the club and swing properly. (She was a golfer in middle and high school) She now understands I am perfectly content with my ineptness of proper form and swing mechanics and now just lets me make a fool of myself
