Just curious if anyone else has some hearing loss that bow hunts on here. I do. Was born with it (I am only 32). Pretty much have to wear hearing aids if I am going to have a conversation in a quiet environment. If I am someplace louder, say for example a bar, I can hear pretty normal because people naturally talk louder when there is background noise.

Anyways... just wondering if anyone else has something like this and how they deal with it. Myself? I can't wear my right hearing aid when I am shooting my bow because it causes it to squeal when I touch my ear with my release. Sometimes I wear my left one and sometimes I don't when I am hunting. When I am gun hunting I wear those amplified ear muffs to protect what I have left.

It makes it real tough to hear a deer coming. I tend to rely on my eyesight more than most.

My dad has quite a bit of hearing loss and I am positive he doesnt see deer he should because of it. I have pruposely walked up behind his stand and there are times he doesnt hear me coming. We just make sure all of his stands face the direction the deer will come from as best as possible. He has tried the walkers game ears before and does think they help but he wont consistently wear them.

I recently got a hearing aid for each ear. I had some hearing loss due to loud explosions while in the army but never thought too much about. I guess as time went on my hearing steadily deteriorated until I knew I had to do something. Went to the audiologist and found out how bad it was. Bad.
I have never heard a deer walking, I always had to see them first and, let me tell you, they have startled the crap out of me when they sneak up on me LOL.
Well, I get the hearing aids and WOW! my hearing really sucked. I asked the audiologist if they had the aids turned up extra loud or was this how people really hear stuff and she said my hearing was "normal" now LMAO. I took my dog for a walk in the woods and him walking on the leaves sounded like an elephant. Maybe I'll actually hear the deer before I see them this year :d .

Shooting the bow isn't any problem as I anchor below my ear so no troubles there. I keep meaning to put a mask on and see if I get any feedback that way. If I do I imagine I'll just cut holes in that part of the mask so it shouldn't be a problem.

yeah i have some loss as well. I had some bad ear infections as a kid and had to have the tubes and all. Then came hard rock, amps, and car stereo systems in the 80's, plus all the rock concerts. now i work in a very loud power plant, i do wear ear procetion but it only helps so much. I have constant ringing in my ears :bash: It does affect my hunting and i rely on my eyes that still have 20/20 vision

BTE. Actually kind of on top and a little behind. They are really small and out of the way.

Yeah I do and I am only 25! I was born with busted eardrums in both ears. I had surgery when I was in my teens to repair the eardrum in my left ear and it must not have helped much at all because it is the worse one of my ears! I do not wear hearing aids, but imagine I will have to eventually get some when it gets "that bad"!
I have tried the walkers game ear, I feel it did work but I couldnt get past the sound amplifying of creeks, birds, planes, trains, etc.....!!

Does it affect my hunting, for sure! I can have deer sneak right up on me, but sometimes I can hear a deer coming from way out? I dont know any different like I said, I have always been this way??
