Well occasionally I'll watch part of a game but I find the highlights tend to wrap it up nicely without wasting hours sitting in front of the TV. To be fair, I feel that way about most sports these days.

In related news Brasil is getting raped with the World Cup and this is pretty funny if you have a few minutes:

I watched the USA/Ghana game. That is all I have watched so far, but I enjoyed it.

I would love to hit one of the bar/parties after a game, I bet it's wild!!!!

Great plays in soccer are not just about scoring, if you are judging a soccer game on the scoring, you are missing the best part of the game.

It is the most popular sport in the world but does not get its due justice in the United States. For those who understand it, it is fun to watch. The 0-0 Brazil and Mexico games was one of the best games of the tournament so far. The skill and strategy involved is deeper than most would think. To each his own, but I for one love the game.

Most people who haven't played don't understand. If they don't understand and take the time to learn, they won't like it.

There's no understanding that a goal is a sacred thing. If you know and understand the game, you can see the strategy and how close you come sometimes to getting a goal. The game is tied and the ball is struck from 25 yards out, striking the goalpost, the excitment in that is incredible.

Thanks to the NFL and NBA, fans are almost calis to scoring. What would the NFL look like if you only got 1 point for every touchdown?? You would have a lot of 1-0, 3-2, 2-0 games, same as soccer. Instead they add-in other chances to put points on the board and give more points for each one. Don't get me wrong though, I love my NFL.

I think the sport in the US is really coming along. Any more, most 35 and under have played the sport in their lifetime and are familiar with it.

I do think the flopping is one of the largest setbacks the sport has in the US. However, even the NBA is struggling to fight this issue and if you look at the size of world-wide soccer compared to the NBA, the NBA is probably worse at it (not looking at numbers, just an educated guess).

I'm not trying to sway anyone's opinion, if you don't like it, you don't like it. Just something to think about.

Great post. scoring just wins games but the team play in between each shot is what makes it fantastic. to be able to control a ball with only your feet and kick it 40 yards and land it on you teammates foot while he's on the run is impressive. and they average like 3 miles a game.

Which is why they are the way they are these days. Points and scoring sells and gets viewers.

Because 95% of the worlds population has no football teams to watch, much less the physical size to be competitive in it.

If football was feasible everywhere, no denying it would be number one. People like violence. It's an expensive sport though, soccer is cheap... One ball and you literally have a league started in third world countries.

I am trying to watch it, but the players are such a bunch of pansies. Is it like watching the Montreal Canadians play with all of the diving.
