I'll still watch. I have watched over half the games from start to finish. Sucks that we aren't in it anymore but still love to watch some amazing players play, such as Messi. He has had a good tournament so far.
I will continue to watch as well. I picked Brazil and Argentina to make it to the Final but I've always enjoyed watching the Netherlands play.
The kick he was talking about being so close was before OT... If it went in, Belgium would have had like 1.5 minutes to score or we would win in regulation 1-0 and not even go to OT.
You can tell American soccer is not really on par with other countries when folks get all worked up over going 1W-2L-1T. In related news Obama called a couple members of the US soccer team to tell them how he and America are proud of the above mentioned performance...you guys should Google it. Just an all around awkward phone call with a bunch of uncomfortable silence, pretty amusing.
It's about advancing not your record. My daughter team won a tourney with 1-0-3 record. That trophy did not know the record
Countries like England, Spain, Italy, and Portugal would have glady taken that record if it meant advancing. The US is no powerhouse when it comes to soccer but at least we made it out of the group.
Right. The US made it out of the unanimous most difficult group of the WC. And had a very realistic shot at winning the group.
I understand the tournament system and obviously the WC has to be that way due to the general lack of scoring and ties which goes back to one of the main reasons it not as popular in the states as a spectator or played sport.
I will lay it out there for some of you who may not understand the relevance of the US moving on to the knockout round. Soccer is the worlds largest sport, therefore the pool of players to choose from is enormous. Add in the strong cultural roots of soccer in some countries and you have some of the best athletes in the world playing soccer on an international stage. Take 23 of the best athletes in Brazil, ones who have been training non stop with a soccer ball since they could walk, and put them against any other 23 players in the world and you have close game. Get how that relates to the US advancing and how the U.S. played Germany to 1-0...went to overtime against Belgium....how darn impressive that achievement really was....??? It is a huge accomplishment.
I can absolutely agree with all that you say. But it doesn't change the fact that soccer is incredibly boring to watch.
I am sorry athletes from 3rd world countries competing at a higher level than the US, I can not accept soccer players being such terrific athletes. Hell they miss that big goal at point blank range.
