If you watched from the 80' mark on in todays game without finding it exciting, you either don't have a pulse or don't want it to be exciting.... I hate soccer and I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of the two overtime periods. We should have won in the last minute before overtime.
I am no longer enjoying the World Cup. Luckily, I still have the NBA Finals, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, World Series, NCAA Tournament, BCS National Championship, and everything else to look forward to.
I will have to admit. I love playing soccer. That's all I ever played growing up in leagues. But watching it... Meh.. But god damn is it college football time yet???
I watched from 85 minute mark until they went down 2-0. Still not getting the "intense" thing. But then again I find the back nine of a major championship in golf "intense" lol. I realize there is probably a lot of strategy involved. But (soccer experts), I have a question.... Why is there no sense of urgency when you're down a goal and playing during extended time? I'm assuming there is some offensive strategy to set up a shot on goal? BUT.. what the heck? Wouldn't you be better off just trying to bust through the middle or sprint with the ball on the outside and wing one at net hoping for the best? The alternative is to kick it around at mid field and let time run out? I'm also surprised at how it seems they miss so bad sometimes. I don't know if that one dude was trying to shoot on net or line up a header or what. But he drilled it out of bounds about 15 feet wide of the goal and 10 feet high. What is up with stuff like that? Serious questions
This issue was this IMO Their midfielders > than our Midfielders. You can have all the "sense of urgency" you want, if your midfielders cannot control the ball, you're screwed. If you watch the game, you witness one of the great efforts by a goalie to keep his team in the game. Dempsey was just plain out of gas.
You have to pick your runs. Controlling the ball is better than just sprinting forward and losing the ball. I mean...it happens. You are kicking a ball. Sometimes it comes off the side of the foot.
Anyone take a look at the demographics of who watches soccer in the US? Not a club I am interested in joining
And THAT is what it's all about... time is the killer! Over extending players beyond their endurance level can cripple a team. Sadly we experienced that happening yesterday. I know it's easy being a 'Monday Morning Quarterback'
THAT's when I was SCREAMING at the television like a wounded rabbit in a coyote's mouth! UGH..................
