I have to say, I'm completely disappointed with the country music scene for the past several years. It's to the point now that I can't even listen to a country station on the radio. Most of it isn't country at all, and most of them don't write their own stuff. I don't care about some 17 y/o girl that broke up with her first boyfriend, Darius Rucker sucks horribly and will never be country despite how hard he tries, and Rascal Flatts makes my ears bleed. It's that bad. I can't honestly say I've been excited to hear something country since the last Jamey Johnson album came out. Anyone else completely disappointed in mainstream country music right now? If so, what are you listening to?
Yeah Im not a fan. Mostly because they don't write their own stuff and its not even that hard to write in the first place. Im sure most will shun me from the hunting community, but Ive grown up in a city area and love rap. And, with most of it, the lyrics are so much more creative. Sure, they might say a bunch of dumb stuff sometime and some find it offensive. But when it comes to rhymes and poetry, its hard to beat. Country hardly ever rhymes, so much less words per song, less lines, shorter lines, long pauses, and yet they still cant write their own stuff. Its hard to respect that.
Agreed, there are a few things coming out that I like. I like almost of the Zac Brown Band's stuff, but I wouldn't classify them as 100% country. I find myself listening to Reckless Kelly Radio a lot on Pandora, give it a shot.
used to listen to country only.. Really don't listen to any of it anymore. Switched over to classic rock
I've been dissapointed in it for years. I don't care if they write their own stuff but it is nice when they do. But I like traditional country. Today's country is pop and most of it sucks too. I listen to the stations that play the older stuff. Merle haggard and George Strait's earlier stuff are some of my favorites. I also listen to older rock and blues rock as well. Hate the new rock. Lately? Try since about 2002. Country music is now just pop with "country" lyrics. Look at the list of "used to be goods": Toby, Tim, Blake, Brad, Keith... Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk 2
I really hate how the new rock remakes completely destroy the older classics. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
I never really liked older country too much. I actually like some of the newer stuff. I like Zac Brown Band, Carrie Underwood, The band Perry, Gary Allen, Little Big Town to name a few. Sorry, I'm a country boy and never cared too much for all that twang. I also love classic rock, and could care less about the crap they are putting out today called rock.
Wait, what's not to like about country music? In all seriousness, there a few new songs I like, but for the most part, I'm over it. I find myself listening to way more alternative/alternative rock, mixed in with some classic rock, and ironically enough, a variety of 90s music for nostalgic reasons.
While I don't like all of it I do enjoy some of it. Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Jason Aldean, Chris Cagle to name a few. Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk 2
Most of today's "country" bands suck IMO Lately I find myself listing to bands with more of a blue grass sound...Mumford and Sons...Trampled by Turtles...I like some of Zach Brown's stuff too
I agree with what others have said in that country has been in trouble for years. It's either poppy or d-baggy anymore and it's fairly useless. Anyone see Jason Aldean on D & DH cover. All I'm saying is that face paint job was Busch League. If anyone uses Iheartradio to stream music look up this station during the weekend, 107.9 WYYD (out of VA). From Friday through Sunday all they play is classic country. It's about the only station I'll listen to anymore for country, I basically listen to other stuff during the week then hit them up on the weekends for a country fix.
I've never been a country music fan. There are some songs that are ok IMO. I could probably use my fingers to number the country songs I like and maybe have a finger or two left over when I was done.
There's plenty of alt country out there if you look around. But you won't find it on the radio. Country radio is complete trash. I haven't listened to the local country station for awhile and when I try its on commercial. Talk radio and pandora for me. And +1 for the D Ruck comments.
The problem with most new country music is that everyone is trying to "out country" each other. Every song is the same - jacked up trucks, chicks in bikini tops, beer, muddin', and singing about how great it is to be country. There's just not a lot of real substance in some of the more popular stuff that's on the radio right now. I mean come on - Truck Yeah? Really? REALLY? I got into country a lot about 5-6 years ago and for a while it was about all I listened to. I'm still a huge Zac Brown fan. But lately I've really gone back to my hard rock/metal roots. The new Stone Sour album has been on repeat in my truck for the last two months, and I'm super excited about the new Killswitch Engage album coming out soon.
