To the original post....I shot a young buck last year that was going at it with a spike buck 15 yds in front of me. Once they seperated, they were just starring at each other squarred off. It was the perfect time for a shot and i let it fly. It was pretty thick so it looked like he ran outa there. The other deer took a few hops and stopped and continued browsing. Anyway, when i went to recover the deer there was barely any blood around and my heart dropped. So i took it slow and then looked up, he was laying 15 yrds from where i shot him. So, my theory is that b/c he was fighting and his testosterone was pumping so much that he really didn't even feel the shot so he stoped and stood around...then died. As for the lack of blood...he only took a couple hops so he didn't even have time to leave a blood trail. So, testerone was prolly a major factor during that shot b/c the deer will really not even feel it and will of course act like not much happened.

Ive had pass throughs where the buck flinched, went on alert, looked around, stumbled and fell over dead with blood spraying out both sides. Ive also had center punch heart pass throughs where they haul the mail with little blood. Most of the time on good heart shots ive had good blood though. A good blood trail is one of the best things a bow hunter gets to see during the season.
