I decided THIS is the year I finally get my wall hanger.....so after many hours studying my prey...learning there feeding habits....learning there patterns.....I booked a trip!!! LOL!!!!! it's something I've always wanted to do, and the place I found seems right up my alley. It's in Illinois, www.oplms.com . I'ts a do it yourself hunt, where there are no guides, YOU have to do your own scouting on a farm your given, and hang your own stands. Your given the first day to scout, the owner gives you a usgs map with hot spots marked out, and your on your own to hunt the next 5 days. I looked into many others, but don't like the idea of being in a stand someone else setup, and having someone walk me into my stand. I was originally gonna go out there and do a true DIY on state land, but this just makes so much more sense! anyone else goin anywhere?
I'm doing the same thing as you. I'll be hunting in Brown and Pike counties the first week on November. Last year we meet up with the owner the first day he showed us the properties and we didn't see him the rest of the week. We hang all our own stands and I was lucky enough to tag a 130"s nine pointer, my brother missed a 140"s out of the same tree. We're really looking forward to going back this year.
DIY in Wyoming in September for either mule deer or whitetail, and antelope if I get a tag; Oklahoma in October and November and Kansas in November.
I'm driving a bunch of Amish Buddies out to Southern Illinois to go bowhunting. We will be hunting on an Amish farm at the base of the Ozarks (so I've been told). The guys are paying for my license, all the gas, my food, and motel stays if wanted. How could I resist???
