We're closing in on it in a hurry. It's in a little over two weeks. I'll be there for a return trip in Open A. I should have won out to semi pro for the upcoming year but I was a few dollars short! I dusted my bow off this past weekend and shot a local tournament. 30 target ASA style scoring course (low 12's), 50yd max, and shot 8 up (308). I shot the bow extremely well, on a surprisingly tough course. I just had a couple mental errors. I shot one 8 on the whole course which was purely yardage. I also shot two 5's on the course on targets inside 32 yards. Once again, it was completely yardage and just me bearing in on the twelves. I also grabbed eleven 12's. Something I started doing last year, and I will continue to do this year is carry a small notepad, recording every shot. This is something I especially do at ASA's in an attempt to keep my head in the game. It works for me. I record what the target is, how far I judged it for, how strong of a shot I made, how far the target actually was (or what I would have had to have shot to get the 12) and where I hit in relation to the twelve. It's just a little thing I picked up on from one of my buddies who shoots on the Pro stage. It really works for me, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who doesn't like to know "how well" they are shooting. I'm the guy that likes to know where I'm standing. It's always in my head. Anyway, is anyone else going to be in attendance? If not, those who are shooting or planning on shooting 3D this year, how is everything going for you guys? This thread would have been placed in the Target Archery forum, but it's dead beyond recussitation over there. :D
Last summer was my first go shooting 3D, nothing big just local stuff, and by the end of the season I started keeping track with a notebook as well. I saw a nice little jump in my score. It helped me to stay focused on the targets and gave me a good idea about my yardage errors. I plan to continue it this year. And I agree about the Target Forum....D-E-A-D. Nobody hanging out in there.
GA that is some of the best advice you could give to a semi serious 3D shooter, or one that wishes to improve. It gives you a good idea of what yardages, targets, and other elements both you and give you trouble. Keep us updated!
