FOr years I have been totally intrested in hog hunting and I love the meat. I have actually thought about giving up deer hunting to just persue the stinky critters! Oh well, come January my son and I will be hard at them for a couple of months. Hopefully I will have some pics!

Anyone else like the hog hunting?

I went down to Laredo years back and hunted TX hogs. It was really fun and I'd love to go back to Tejas and try again for them. Heck the little desert cottontails are almost enough to go back for. They were everywhere and tasty.

I used to go to TN in the early Spring and do the hawg dawg thing. (pack of dogs, angry hogs, lots of runnin' up and down big steep hills and bows and arras) That's true redneck fun there but the price is now up to 675.00 for a hog. :(

If you know of any decent and fair priced day leases in TX, let me know.

Good luck to you and your son.

My dad booked a hunt last year for him and I here...http://www.circletbowhuntingranch.com/viewphotos.cgi?pullerid=dec%2007%20006.jpg&day=22&cdate=12-2007&action=view&width=450&image=dec%2007%20006.jpg (the big guy is me). I did not know it was a high fence game ranch until we got there and he had already paid. I would not hunt anything else on the property but I went ahead and shot my 2 pigs since he paid. It was a blast and I just sat and watched all kinds of exotics all day. My dad watched 2 Corsican Rams fight for and hour 25 yds from his stand. He said it was amazing. For $300 you get 2 hogs with a bow and the cabin and ammenities are great. Pool table, table hockey, shuffle board, poker table, big screen tv with satellite, horse shoes, BBQ pits, grills, 2 bathrooms, yada yada yada. The guide was very down to earth and helped alot. He WANTED you to get your 2 pigs. He even took my dad out at night and was spotlighting with a bow (which is legal in Texas) All in all we had a blast. The other little picture is my step brother and if you go to the day before o the 21st is my dad.

I hunted hogs once, my first year of college, it was fun, suckers are mean, now that I bow hunt I wouldnt mind trying it, but you dont see many in norther IL, and I'd rather spend the money to hunt something I havent already done.

Down here in South Kackalacki hogs are getting very common....and yes they are incredibly tasty....I live and hunt in Fairfield COunty and it is illegal to hunt over bait for Deer or Turkey....but come Jan. 2nd I will begin pouring corn out. The best method that I have found is to take your corn and pour it inot a 5 gallon bucket and pour some sugar on it and cover w/water and let it sit.....make sure you can pop the lid on it cause it gets ripe. Once it is ripe you go to the location you want to hunt and take a post hole digger and dig several 3 ft. holes and fill them with the ripe corn. THe hogs will turn the place into a wallow area....put your trail cameras up and see what time they are using it.

If they are nocturnal and you can't hunt at night then get some "hogwild" mix and when the wind is right pour it out on the wallows and get ready.

The reason you dig the holes is so that the hogs can't get to all the corn in one sitting.....

I love to shoot pigs... that and predator calling are what fill my winters between waterfowl and turkey season. Buckeye will hopefully be joining me down here in the middle of the winter... Should be a good time!!

I was amazed too! The best part is that his ol' lady is 100% for it. Although she did ask if we were hunting hogs or going "hoggin'" I assured her any hogs we brought home would have 4 legs, be really hairy and would stink really bad:d :d :d

Yes we have a ton of pigs. About 6 weeks ago I had roughly 40 surround the truck in the dark. 2 weeks ago my boss shot three in one morning from his deer stand. I've hunted deer around Nashoba and they are definitely harder to hunt down there.

babyburb I love hog hunting. I go at every opportunity. That east Tx lease I told you about has plenty. Maybe you can join me in Feb. or Mar. It will give you a look at the place and we could gather some BBQ together.
