IMG_2216.JPG IMG_2218.JPG IMG_2222.JPG i went bass fishing today for the first time this year. I caught four decent bass before I decided to head home at 11:00.

Let me backtrack for a minute. Two weeks ago today my wife and I drove by the lake to check the ice coverage. While we were there we met a family with two cute shepherd mixed puppies.

Well, when I got back to the dock to head home the puppies were still there. They had obviously been abandoned. They were starving and were skin and bones.

I had a sandwich I hadn't eaten so I tore it in half and gave it to them. I almost lost a couple of fingers in the process.

There was no way I could leave them so into the back seat of my brand new F250 they went. It was only a 20 minute drive home but about half way there I heard one of them throw up. Ah well, it cleans off.

I got them home and put them in the garage and we went to Hollywood feed to pick up some flea and tick shampoo, puppy food and some dewormer. We got back home and while my wife gave them a bath I filleted the fish.

So, we have fish fillets for dinner and two male shepherd mix dogs to find a home for.

I live in Munford, Tennessee. It's about 45 minutes north of Memphis.

Actually, we contacted a rescue group and they're coming to pick them both up on Tuesday so they'll both end up with good homes. I'm thinking I'm going to have a hard time letting them both go by then.

It astounds me that anyone can do this to a dog. Nothing deserves to starve to death, and they weren't too far from it.

Awesome, good man...thank you sir! I agree, it's just gross that people do stuff like that to dogs.

There’s a special place for people who can do that to dog let alone a puppy.

How terrible! In todays world you probably aren't more than 15 minutes from a shelter that would be willing to take 2 puppies like that. It is sad that they would rather let them suffer a horrible death rather then be embarrased at a rescue shelter. Starvation has gotta be the worst way to go.

That one on the right looks almost identical to my old German shepherd mix. She unfortunately died this last august. I hope you can find them a good home soon!

Well, it looks like dmen, who commented above, is taking the darker one on the right.

The lighter one is going to stay with us. I named our last dog Dizzy after a character in Starship Troopers. We decided to stick with that idea and name this little guy Rico. :)

Never really worked with the Green Side, but I did three tours on Amphibs: USS AUSTIN (LPD 4), USS RUSHMORE (LSD 47) and USS SHREVEPORT (LPD 12). We sure gave a lot of you guys rides to the action over the years and I never envied you the things you had to do over there.

Thanks for your service and all you did during your career!

My daughter has already given the dog the name of Odin. My wife was really lobbying for the name Apollo. We will see when he gets here. Iafarmboy,I did 4 years USMC, 1989-93
