I am trying to fix up an old skill pool table I picked up at a yard sale over the summer. On the table there are 12 Aluminum Bumper Pegs. The aluminum does not look horrible, it just does not shine? It is also pitted(?), it is not smooth. Is there anything I can do to get the pitting to a minimum and make these things shine like glass? I have messed with a few pegs with the dremel tool and some dremel polish and a couple other products. I can get them to look clean and shiny, but it is nowhere near the shine I want them to be at! Any help is appreciated!!
I have polished several motorcycle frames (street bikes). Get a good buffing compound and some 2000ish grit sandpaper...wet sand and buff, wet sand and buff. I was self tought with this because I could not afford to have my frame dipped in chrome, if you take your time it will look like chrome. Hope this helps.
If you look on Eastwood http://www.eastwood.com/?srccode=ga200220&gclid=COywkujyiKYCFcbd4AodPT2KoA site they have a ton of metal polishing stuff. I had a Sportster when I was in Okinawa, took off all the AL parts and polished them with Fitz. Sealed them with a spray called Nyalic, kept them from oxidizing again.
If you don't have access to a lathe, then take them of and get your self a short piece of all thread the same size and pitch as the bolts that hold them to the table. cut off a piece long enough to chuck up in your cordless drill and screw them on and polish them as needed. A jam nut will hold them in place as you work.
^^^^^good idea I used this Motorcycle polish and finish kit they sold at the IMS amazing stuff. if its metal it makes it shine. i'll see if i can find the name
I have two different grits of jewelers rouge that I use,, dont know where to buy it though, it was gave to me. I use a polishing wheel with an air motor. Im not sure how you would get the pitting out.
I wish I could point you in that direction...again, I just used whatever the "crew" had around, and put alot of time and elbow grease in to it. The guys posting around us have already given some better ideas of how to make it easier. I could get it to shine like glass, but man was it some work. Jim's idea sound great.
