I have been doing these hunts for years. Same deal, we need advanced bowhunter safety class which was 8 hours here. Then you take a proficiency and depending on the hunts you apply for you may or may not get drawn. You may apply for sharpshooter hunts and the profeciency gets tougher all 6 arrows in the ring. Then most are does only the first 2 day weekend then month later you get 2 more days and it would be either sex. It's okay and a opportunity to shoot a monster but they do the same areas most every year. I hunted hard 8 days last year and saw 1 spike buck thats it. lol One guy in our group dropped a 140" non typical. You just never know what you will see. It's better than sitting home though. I applied for Camp Ripley again this year so hopefully I will be doing that instead.
im trying to get into the fargo urban hunt, they have a overpopulation problem in their golf coarse, and its just like all your guy's, gotta take a class, then shoot a proficency test, its all draw tho hopefully i will get a call soon!
I would fully take advantage of any oppurtunitys to hunt any extra time - I like shooting does as well so if they are anterless only doesnt bother me -
I just moved to Des Moines early this year. I have filmed some huge bucks in the urban areas. I haven't looked into all of the regs yet, but I plan on getting things going once I close on our new house (today) and get settled. Is it too late for the classes and proficiency tests for the year? I hope not.
