The price that you paid for your new bow this year if you bought one? What kind is it? Like's and Dislike's?? I am going to get a new one and I know what fits me best ay not suit any of you, but I am just trying to get an idea of what else to look at before I bite the bullet on the Admiral~~~~ Im a TIGHTWAD and have a hard time swallowing the $770 price tag!! Is this price about the going average??? Thanks in advance to anyone who shares some info with me!! I also understand that in most cases you get what you pay for...!!!! My last bow was only $265 brand new and it's still going strong...knock on wood!
i bought a used ross carnivore... I can't justify new bow prices these days (I'm a tightwad also), find a used one and you'll save probably 200+ bucks off new... used admirals are already showing up here and there...
Buy used. You will generally pay less than 50% of the new price unless the bow is this years model and even then you will likely save at least 25%. There are also store deals when they are trying to move last years models. Last fall, 2008, my buddy bought a brand new 2007 Bowtech Commander, with warranty, for $400 from Bowhunter's Superstore. Shop around. There are many, many good deals for those willing to wait and look.
My advice is the classifieds. If you can find a bow, Setup already, in there for a hundred buck or so youll be way ahead of the game. Remember that bowhunting is not a high tech sport no matter what or how they make bows. All bows do the same thing. Fling an arrow from rest to a certain speed in a controlled manner. With this in mind, I picked up my latest bow for 25 dollars in a paper shop. Paid 50 dollars for PSE to inspect the limbs and Im ready to go. You dont need a brand new bow. And although you might have a timing problem every couple years with twin cams, at least you can tune and fine tune by yourself with perfect nock travel every time. Single cams ALMOST eliminate this timing problem but ask how straight the nock travel is and how easy it is to tune yourself. Finally, everyone has a preference but here is a link you should check out. http://www.archery-engineering.co.za/conversions/compound_bow_selection_guide..htm
By the way, I am somewhat frugal normally but having been married now for 4 years and with 2 kids, I have been forced to a level of tightwadism that is somewhat shocking. I even wash and reuse plastic throw away cups.
mark+1, I've gotten so cheap I do the same thing, I also empty the ketchup packets I get into my bottle i keep in the fridge... its silly at times but its my thing...
