You thinks so? Sounds like the immediate goal is to railroad this through much like the affordable care act.
Interesting reads. I suppose the "outlook" depends on the source. It does seem that most of the headlines on Reuters today switched over toward more fiscal cliff talk and stock market reactions. Then there's this: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/20/us-usa-guns-ohio-idUSBRE8BJ1EY20121220 One way or another, I just find it hard to believe NOTHING will come of all of this in some form of legislation. In the meantime, the "hysteria" mentioned in your article will certainly do nothing to help those who just want to buy some basics...like myself:D
I figured it was a no go on any lowers since nothing has panned out so far. So I am now part of the gunbroker problem, I just a little bit ago ordered two RRA compete lowers for $495 each, with standard triggers no less. These were like $275 two weeks ago, SIGH.... Sheep... Herd. I am going to pick and choose the pieces to my upper, doubt I will order a complete upper... Looking for light weight, any suggestions on light weight barrels?
Yeah, looks like it's going to be way faster to assemble it yourself - guessing lead time for assembled uppers is ridiculous...? A small company out of MN has some 16"s (kinda their standard barrel) on sale - they are selling a 3 pack for $250. Getting them shipped with 3 basic flash suppressors for $279. I was just looking for something cheap to roll with and experiment with so fit the bill well for me. Shoot me a PM if you want their info to check it out...
Scott - What do you want to do with the gun and how much do you want to spend? If you care about accuracy, generally you don't want a chrome lined barrel. You can get decently accurate lined barrels that are lined, but your most accurate ones won't be. If you are setting up an open sighted rifle and don't need something 1" or better than get chrome lined as you can put any of the dirtiest cheap ammo through it and never clean it and it will last forever. If $$$ was no object I'd be getting another barrel with a matching headspaced bolt from www.ar15performance.com. He makes a 16" lightweight barrel in 5.56 wylde chamber as well as a lot of 6.8's that he's mostly known for. He knows what he's doing and isn't super well known so he might actually have things in stock soon. I built a pair of matching guns this summer for buddies using his custom 6.8 ARP barrels and they were awesome. He's coating with melonite (read up on it if you can) and he's one of the few doing this with AR's, melonite is more commonly used in high end handguns like custom 1911's. Anyhow both of the guns I built this summer were .5-.75 MOA shooters with good handloads and shot just about anything we put in them at 1" or less. My current yote calling rifle is built on a really lightweight .223 ER Shaw barrel with a levang linear comp. It's been a good setup for me and shoots 1-1.5" with about anything I put in it, but it was the first gun I built and now that I've done a few there are things I'd like to do differently. Someday I'd like to get the 5.56 wylde barrel from ARP that I suggested above to upgrade my setup, I just haven't done it yet.
Holy crap! Did you see what people are paying for 1000 rnds of .223! I usually spend around 300 for 1000. Hope people realize that most of the price hikes are people just gouging the crap outta everything. My rifle is now worth double what I paid. I hope people pay attention to who's gouging and stop doing business with them. I understand supply and demand but just because some idiot will pay it, everyone hikes up their prices.
Christine, is yours made by AR57? if so have you assembled your lower yet, or atleast mated it to an upper to make sure it fits. two guys I work with and I ordered three of them and one of the guys found the thread on AR15.com where people were having issues with the lowers not being able to mate up to an upper due to the machining not being to spec. Here is the link to the thread. it looks like most of the problems have been with 4 digit serial numbers, mine is a 3 digit and it fits just fine thank god. It looks like they are being pretty straight up about dealing with the problem though, if yours isnt right just call them and they'll send one directly to you at no cost and you keep the old one. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_4/594209_AIM_Surplus_AR_FIFTEEN___aka_AR_57__out_of_spec_issues_.html And speaking of outrageous ammo prices, the Winston Salem Gun and Knife show was this weekend and several of my co workers went and they witnessed a man pay $1000 for 1000 rounds of junk .223 ammo. I dont remember what brand they said but they said it was trash.
For the first one of the two I am looking to make a light weight setup with decent accuracy that is durable and will take a beating. Sure I would love 1 MOA accuracy but I am not striving for it per say. That's where my thought process currently resides, always subject to change though!
PSA lowers are milspec. No problems putting them together. I'm pretty sure they are made by Aero Precision and/or LW Schneider.
Chall, when you ordered them did it say you were buying a ar57 lower or a psa stamped lower? Mine are marked as psa. Thanks for the heads up on the ar 57 lowers. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
So I'm probably giving you guys a lay up, but try to bot make fun of me to much on this question. I'm so new to ARs and just trying to find a way to be able to get one. I don't have money now for anything, won't till fed or march, when everything else is long gone or 3x the normal price. I seen a bunch of kids to turn a normal .223 AR into a .22lr. So I was wondering if you can do the opposite. If I could buy this http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shoo...nknown;cat104792580;cat105530580;cat104800680 and put a .223 upper on it. I figure though it won't because of the firing pin...but had to ask incase it is possible. Sorry to sound dumb if I do.
That only looks like an AR and has mock controls. Other than that they are nothing alike at all. The best thing you can do on a low budget is to start with a stripped lower assembly. Then you can buy parts as you can afford them to complete the build.
Thanks bud...I figured that was the case but had to ask. With lowers being 300-500 (everywhere I seen anyway) even that is out of my range at the moment. Hopefully there's some available when tax time comes around.
keep checking manufactures websites. PSA listed a few hundred today and sold out in a couple hours at $140 I think it was. You just have to be right place right time. You could also go with a polymer lower, they are much cheaper and still readily available.
