The pics are making me wanna get out there! Black Friday put a damper on my hunting today, good ole 11am-1am shift. Gotta love retail. Hope to get out and hammer a few more geese before that closes along with duck. Just 3 short weeks til I can head back to the coast and kill some sea ducks and buffies. Can't wait! Must be weird seeing scoters that far inland! Always neat to have a little diversity though! Let's Keep the pics coming guys! Good luck and stay safe out there!

Invisichair? I got a lot of pics I'll get around to uploading some day. I think I'm up to seeing 300 or so killed so far since Nov. 2. Majority mallards and pintails.

Had a nice day today. Saw several thousand birds and got our two man limit of ducks and geese. Need to train more and build confidence on geese with the pup but who would like holding a 15-20lb bird will ice skating on ice. All the retrieves he had to run out on a frozen pond which was completely new to him.

I did everything except FF and CC. I sent him to a local guy 3 hrs away whose trained for 35 years. I still pick his brain weekly on things bc I feel its just as much my responsibility to be a "good" owner/trainer and not let things slip. I'm kind of hard on the pup honestly.... I strive for perfection but training a dog is like painting a masterpiece..... it takes time.... years!

One more question, what age did you send him to the trainer?

Sent him at 6 months. Most trainers wont take one before they get their adult teeth which is usually around 5-6 months. Left him for 3 months which is short also.... most trainers keep them a min. of 4-6 months. Find a good trainer and it wont matter bc it'll pay for itself in the long run. Def shop around, some trainers train trial dogs and some train gun dogs. Mine did both for 20+ years but now is strictly a gun dog trainer but trains up to MH level.

All these pictures make me wanna move! Maine isn't exactly a waterfowl hotspot. Went back home to the coast the other day, me and my dad got a two man limit of Buffleheads. Not much else around right now, seems like the Goldeneyes were thin this year. Saw a few Blacks but they were being extra picky with the flood tide. Still waiting til Christmas break to put the hurt on some Eiders. Can't wait! Good luck and hunt safe guys.

Season is done for me in MN. Average temp of 0 and wind chills well into -20s for the last week plus 8-10" of snow. No more birds left

Wish I had the time to head south for a week. But now it's time to look forward to chasing some snows in a couple months :nana:
