One of my best buds back in NY drives for UPS and says the same thing. He also did 13 years of loading/unloading trucks before he got to move into a driving route. I'm pretty sure you have to work your way up from the loading type of position to get into a driver position with UPS. What buttonbuckmaster outlined above is the same feedback from my buddy. Pay is good, benefits are pretty good with a great pension, but the job and company overall he doesn't like. He actually considered last year moving from a driving route to another job for significantly less pay because he's tired of the 60 hour weeks.
A part time employee I have works for ups as a main job....hes been there 8 years and almost has his own route...does drive once and a while but mainly slings boxes....good pay....good benefits.....lousy vacation.....long hours....all that has been mentioned hes said over and over word for word....if it wasnt for the excellent benefits he would not be there Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
Thanks for the input guys. I'm hearing the same stuff over and over so it must be true. I'll probably hang tight and look into possibly moving up or find a sales position for another company. Don't want to make a decision that I'll regret. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Route sales and delivery can be rough. I was a route like that for a couple years when I worked for a Miller/coors distributer. I would keep your feelers out with other vendors you might see out in the market place. I had always heard the pay for "chip guys" wasn't to bad but not sure about benifits but at least your cargo is pretty light. Also you never know when just a sales position might open up for a company like coke, miller, budwiser, etc.
