I've been considering leaving my pepsi delivery route and looking for a new job. I have my business degree but can't find a job that pays near what I'm making without lots of experience. My main reason for wanting to leave are that my benefits aren't good at all. In 18 months I've gotten 1 week of pto and that wasn't till after a year of service. I get 1 week again this year that I am using either in September or November. I'm just curious if anyone drives for Ups and if it's a good place to work? Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I don't work there but have known a few people that have. Are you thinking of one of the box trucks? Or a big rig?
Box truck. But a big rig would be alright. I drive a semi every day so that's not an issue. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Just from knowing some people that have....the big rig side would be more appealing to me. The everyday delivery would post some challenges of sketchy travel, around here anyway IMO. I believe the pay is pretty good.
Ya. Do they seem to like working there? And do you happen to know the vacation package? Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I know 4 people that drive for UPS. All of them like the money, dislike the job and hate the company. My best friend has worked for UPS since 1995 and he still has a hard time getting vacations in November and December for hunting.
Thanks for the info. I definitely need vacation early November lol. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
My BIL drives a delivery truck at UPS. I think he makes decent pay and good benefits. He doesn't seem to like his job much but it pays the bills.
I know the guy who picks up from the store hates the job, but admits the pay is to good to complain. They work close to 60 hours a week. Time off in November would be rare, that's too close to holiday season.
I talked to a guy in my church that drives for them and he said he likes the job. He kept saying how awesome the benefits are. Also he said vacation in November isn't all that difficult to get. No vacation is permitted without special circumstances between thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm going to apply for it and see what happens. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
If you have a business degree have you thought about trying the sales side of Pepsi? I used to work for Coca-Cola as an account manager and while I absolutley hated the company the work wasn't to bad at all and the pay was fairly decent then add in a sales bonus and it was pretty nice. on a side note they abused the hell out of their drivers as well.
I am in sales. My company is privately owned and we do all the ordering and selling to our accounts. I've thought about trying to move up to a training director which is above me and below the route manager. If I did this I would have to take a slight pay cut because I am working on straight commission. I don't hate my job just hate the company benefits. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Would the upside in sales not have greater potential? If you like the sales side and the potential is there, I would take the pay cut. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
That's why this is a tough decision. Sales experience is pretty valuable. I am also gaining tractor trailer experience which also is good because trucking jobs are pretty easy to fall back on in case something were to happen. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I have a friend that drives for fedex. Maybe with your driving experience you would be on a 'fast track' towards delivery but he had to really pay his dues unloading semi's and airplanes for many years... Then he started helping with deliveries during the busy times on what would normally have been his days off -then years later got his own route... Pay sounds likes it OK, they have a lot of forced work time throughout the year depending on business needs which is good or bad - depending on how much you want to work. Vacation time can also be a challenge. He gets a lot of time off in theory but it's all based off seniority so he rarely gets to take off any time June - August (and he's been there a long time) and often times the best hunting dates are taken too.... I know he would rather be doing something else but its hard once you put in so much time with a company - he doesn't want to start over at square 1 so he makes it work....
It would be a driving job that I'm looking at. I refuse to be in a warehouse again loading trucks. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
