OK...so I have a few gift certiicates laying around for cabelas and I think I may get some underarmour. But I am an idiot...why do they have so many different things and how do I know what to get? 1.0, 2.0, 3.0? Why are there so many dang choices out there? I need something to help and try to keep me warm on these cold days. I don't like coveralls because they add too much bulk. I like to layer.

So somebody point me in the right direction. I know we have some cold weather Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, etc... hunter in here.

The 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 are baselayers of increasing warmth. I own some UA coldgear but I'm not sure what number it can be compared to. All I know is that it keeps me dry when I sweat and is warm to boot.

higher number means warmer....3.0 is highest on cabelas probably...Kyle has some 4.0 stuff he says is amazing.

I just have the normal cold gear mock compression t...not sure which number it stacks up to like Mo said. but dry and warm cant be beat.

The heat gear boxer briefs are on sale at cabelas right now and are insanely awesome if you walk alot hunting...I just picked up 3 more pair for an upcoming trip.

I have the ColdGear too, and like the others, I don't know what number it is equivelant to.

But it is suprisingly warm and will keep you nice and dry.

UA is GREAT gear and even better looking but if you wanna stay warm i'd go with another brand.... UA is fairly new to the game of hunting but specialized in football, no need to stay that warm on the field so their stuff wicks away sweat but isnt all that good for sitting on those cold days. summer and early fall that's all i wear! i own just about everything they have come out with (buddy gave it to me for free, he doesnt hunt) and for cold sitting i'll wear it as a base layer but u still need some insulating layers. look on the site and instead of looking at hunting check out their Tatical Stuff. works a bit better for the cold sits. i have the bibs too, their ok... and still havnet found a glove to keep my hands warm (pocket muff) hope this helps, give em a few more yrs and look in the future for some waffle stuff from them!

I own some UA Cold Gear and honestly, I'm not that impressed with it. Like Isaiah said, it's made for wicking moisture away from your skin to keep you warm during physical activity. It's good when I'm packing in a stand to hang that night and know I'm gonna get sweated up, but for sitting long periods of time in the freezing cold I honestly don't think it does much. I prefer a Merino Wool base layer that wicks as well as insulates along with a mid-weight fleece mid layer and a good insulated outer layer. IMO that's the best way to stay warm during our fun late season cold snaps.

If you're gonna get the UA, make sure you have a good mid layer to go over it. That's what's really going to keep you warm. I like the Scent-Lok Baselayers w/Climafleece. I've been very happy with that so far, and also the Cabela's Outfitters Microfleece Henley. That's a really nice shirt too.

Yea Justin has a point. standing alone, it doesn't do much...but as a part of a system it does help. Ever have the problem of sweating by the time your on stand, then freezing once you settle down? UA will eliminate that...and compression gear fits against skin, it adds no bulk whatsoever in a layering system. It does help with wartmth some too, but probably not as much as wool.

It depends on what you call cold I guess. Cold to me is in the low 20s and teens (KY), which is Tshirt weather to alot of you guys up north, lol....I wear UA cold gear, midweight fleece baselayer pullover, button up cotton camp shirt....and once on stand I put on either a vest or jacket, depending on how cold it is. I do fine.

been w/ under armour since high school football when all they had was a basic cold & heat gear line, that's it. after 8yrs and all their new lines out (fishing, hunting, golf, etc) I won't go back. i will admit they can get pricey but it's worth it & it is some of the most comfortable clothing on the market IMO. for those that say UA coldgear isnt warm enough try their new base layers 3.0 and you will change your mind.

I have the UA coldgear. I bought it back when Galyan's changed over to ****s. Bought a long sleeve undershirt and the bottoms for half price.

It does wick away the sweat but on really cold days it feels like I'm wearing a layer of cold jello. Particularly the top. I'm pretty low tech in the clothes dept so my other mid layers are just long sleeve cotton t-shirts.

I've decided that shivering is good for the soul. :)

Then again maybe I'll look at those fleece base layers.

i have been to the outlet/factory store in destin, FL. they didnt have squat for hunting gear, they had some basic cold gear jackets but nothing worth taking in the field. it was in florida so you never know, probably a good chance they would have some hunting stuff or cold gear stuff up north. i bought a golf shirt & a button up off of what they call the "irregular" aka blemished rack and I must say haven't had any problems and even if I did, paying $8 for a $60 shirt is a deal in my book

I've got some mid-weight UA gear and it works good but I just recently bought some Scentblocker/Scent Shield heavyweight stuff for the really cold temps were having right now here in NW Ohio. It's a base layer that's made out of Merino Wool so it isn't itchy at all and it has their S3 it it to help fight bacteria growth. I believe the price is comparable to te UA Heavyweight.

    You can see it here.

Don't have the UA, but like Double Creek I've been very happy with GM's expedition weight top and bottom. I put it on over my X-scent basic underwear and it does a good job. My problem is keeping my hands and toes warm.........good thing they make Hot Hands.

I love UA wouldn't go out without it. It keeps me warm and dry and UA allows you to cut down on layers making moving easier.

    Thread Jack, but somewhat related.
I will look tonight for the brand name, but someone on here mentioned the waffle gear.
When I was in the Marines, they were testing some new Cold weather gear. They issued us a whole lot of cool stuff, and told us to put it to the test. They just gave it to us to keep. Some of the long johns layers they gave us were the "waffle" style.
I can not find one complaint about this. With a silky/wicking layer underneath, I have not gotten cold at all! I have put it through the test. Standing on guard duty up in high altitude, wind, snow, rain, nothing got me cold.
I also have some of the other stuff they gave us, that was equally, if not better for warming. Sub zero temps are nothing anymore.

Again, I will look into the tags later to see if I can find something that says a brand name, maybe this is avail to the public.
I have tried to use some of the UA gear, it did not do nearly what this does.
