Hey guys, I live in Australia and have shot a few foxes with my gun and now want to try and get one with my bow, so I know the main parts about fox calling but not so much getting them in within 30 metres for a shot with the bear apprentice 2 set at about 40 pounds. and i would be happy to call into the night as well as i have set up a torch kit and a sight light. So just wondering if anyone could give me some tips to get my first fox with my bow. Thanks.
a live mouse or rat in a little cage -if it's legal ....otherwise an electronic call with a local prey animal distress call and some good scent/lure and decoy - Remember to keep yourself and your scent to a minimum(especially if they are wary of humans). -- this has definitely worked for some guys cameratrapping over here(seen some crazy vids and photos of critters trying to get to the 'injured/distressed' animal). http://wasatchwild.com/teaser.html check these out for how well it works http://camtrapper.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4501 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oEXjrD0MpU
I shot a few of them years ago but have stopped. I would simply make a squeeking sound with my lips just loud enough for them to hear whenever I saw one and they would usually come right in. I think the fact that it was a soft sound seemed more realistic... they have fabulous hearing so a lot of volume isn't required. Now I enjoy watching them... I shoot every coyote I can though.
If a electronic call is legal, thats the best route. Or if they are near mouth calling is simple enough to get them interested.
