I have a couple of stands in my honey holes that I wont even go near until around the last week of October- November. I see many many bucks in these stands and almost connected on a 160" class buck last year in one of those places. I have found over the years that If I stay clear until then, and leave those Does alone, that those areas gets pounded with Bucks when they go in the looking phase. Im itching to get in there (real bad) but I know better Who else does this, and have you always done this?? For me, I just started this about three years ago!!
I wish I could, but I cant. Because if I dont sit there, someone else will. If I hunted me properties alone, I have a few areas without a doubt I would put on hold.
Thats a bummer OHb, Im lucky that im not lazy, because both of these spots are way back in there, and most the members on our lease dont like walking that far back in the woods, so that just benefits me more the better. what those guys dont know about these spots wont hurt them :D cause I dont tell them!
I have my entire main piece of property with 18 different stands that I won't hunt until the first week of November. I'll poke around and hunt my secondary locations until then. It has to pay off.
Yep. One stand in a finger of woods between two corn fields with a ridge/bedding area to the west. Once the corn is cut (which usually coincides with the seeking/chasing), it draws deer everywhere. Last year I saw 3-4 bucks almost everytime I was in that stand after the 2nd of November.
I have two cruising route stands that I plan on climbing when the time is right. Rob and I saw a real good buck in near where I had a set hung last year. This year I am gonna move up in the woods a bit to cut down the shot. I may plan an all day or a 9am - dark sit here on one of the Saturdays in November.
Yes I do... That is why it is a beautiful, chilly Sunday morning and I'm not hunting .. Don't wanna overhunt a couple spots this year, so I'm leaving them alone until the time is right. One is a tiny travel corridor bucks use during the rut (from what I saw last year). Also, we have a good amount of meat so far, and it is still early, so I'm not going to try and hunt spots that (I think) could produce much better if left alone for now.
I do, Dan. . and the wait is killin' me! :D My cousin from southern MO is joing me for this property, in Nov. (though, I'll likely start sitting there the last week of Oct. ). I'm considering sneaking in there this week to set a couple of cams. From the land owner and neighbor reports, I'm expecting good things. I'd love to get a sneak a peak at what I'll be hunting, as well as see which bucks made it through the season, last year.
I did. I told myself I wasn't going to this stand until the last week of October. But I went twice last week :/. The wind was right though and I'm glad I went because I took that stand down (it was a lock on) and took it to a more productive spot). This helps me in two ways because now the temptation to go down there is gone, and as soon as the area gets hot at the end of this month and early November, I'll just take my climber into the area, which is notorious for having erratic deer movement (albiet, a lot of movement) instead of being confined to one position.
