If you have an RV, 5th wheel, or travel trailer, you need to take a look at these pictures. This is my parent Fleetwood Bounder RV. After doing a bit if internet research, I have found that there are 2 refrigerator manufacturers that have had numerous problems, upto and including fires caused by defective units that they have continued to manufacture over the course of a decade. So if you have a vehicle w. a refrigerator in it, you need to check it out for your own safety. My parents and daughter we're camping this week when a fire erupted from behind the refrigerator.. Thank god this happened during the daytime because they were able to get out of the RV, I shutter to think what would have happened if this had happened at night. The local fire department got there in a decent time and was able to get the fire out before it burned to the ground and luckily they were able to save a fair amount of their belongings, but lost most.
That is terrible. Glad to hear that everyone was alright. I have seen some RV fires before but never that bad.
Both of those companies have a recall on certain models. http://www.ennislaw.com/rv_refrigerator_fires.html http://fda-recalls.us/dometic_refrigerator_recall
Dad had checked his at one time and his serial number didn't fall within their recall. I have read that same thing from there on various forums. The problem is, the recall is only a bandaid anyway and doesn't address the actual cause of the issue.
