So when I wash a load a clothes, or use an excess amount of water, the downstairs tub and toilet, and kitchen sink will fill up with water....?Toilet Won't flush and the drains, drain really slow...

I live in an old house and the only thing I can think of is the Septic needs pumping?

Could either be the septic or the main drain line going out of the house is partially plugged. Tree roots are pretty common. Especially if it is an old clay line. I have had to dig up and replace mine before. If you replace the clay with PVC, bring a cleanout line up so you can easily snake it later.

I was gonna suggest checking for a cleanout, also.

I've got a suggestion, if you have to call a plumber. But, it's something we'd better discuss in PM.:tu:

This is right. If you wait much longer it will plug and flood your basement. Don't ask me how I know.

I had to snake out the lateral. The cause was a combo of roots and......tampons ( white mice).:mad::mad:

Greg's exactly right. I had the same problem. Mine started actually backwashing sewage into the washer full of clothes a couple of years ago. Lucky for me, I had to replace the whole tank and drywell..........

Just check for a cleanout, FIRST. How much simpler can that be? You may not have a root; septic tank or any other problem. Your line may be clogged.

Another possability to check. If you have a current tank, take the cleanout lid off the top, you will see where the goo enters the tank. There is sometimes a TEE attached to this where the goo falls. I have seen when the water is high in the tank from high water table, that the toilet paper will float and not drop into tank plugging TEE. Just a thought.
To clean it out just reach down and get ya some :) LOL

One other thing for you to check... and it's the easiest. Check your standing vent pipes. They can get plugged up with all sorts of things from leaves, to pine cones to critters. You need that pipe to be open or nothing will drain properly and yes... it'll back up. Could be your septic or main line but check the easiest fix first. We had a squirrel die and plug one up once. Soon as we got the squirrel out everything was fine. Without that open pipe the system becomes air bound and nothing drains as it should

Aaron I just had mine pumped about a month ago we were smelling a slight odor in the third bathroom near the tank. It never backed up but when I pulled the lid off (mine sits on top of the ground) it was full. Also take a garden hose and run down your vent pipes on top of the house and check those off the list. Like Jeff said check your clean out first.
