Yes. And when I am in the left lane after passing, I am looking for a chance to move back over to the right lane. I am not going to speed up to 80+ because Speed Racer thinks I should. Sorry, it isn't going to happen. The thing is; there are usually several cars to pass when I go left and it takes a while to get past all of them. When I do get past them, I will move on over, with or without, Richard Petty blinking his lights at me, which I usually can't see anyway because he is so close I can't even see his headlights. Usually, as often as not, when I finally do get to a place where I can move back over (safely), Mr. Blinky behind me, races around to my right before I can get over and forces me to stay in the left lane until he and all his drafting buddies get finished passing me and giving me the finger. Then I don't get credit for the fact that I actually do move over because the guy is now on someone elses bumper doing the same thing. C'mon people, that is the kind of passing on the right the law addresses. You don't know it but when you drive aggressively like that, you are probably causing most of the very problems you are complaining about.
I really hate this. There is no reason for it. I am on the highway every weekend and see it all the time. Another thing........... I wish more people would realize....... cruise control is your friend, please use it!
Oh yeah, there are laws against driving too slow and clogging traffic....it is called obstructing traffic.
i think we'll all be exp some of this type stuff this Memorial weekend! ugh. i pride myself in getting the heck outta the way if faster vehicles are closing in, clicking semi's at night letting them know they can come over and moving over a lane if a car is pulled over. guess i hope all would do the same for me...
So what are the laws for each State concerning driving in the right lane? Most seem a bit ambiguous. A few, Illinois, Georgia and Louisiana are pretty clear. Most refer to driving under the speed limit or under the flow of traffic "continuously" in the left lane. I thought I'd share the link for those traveling this weekend. Bottom line for all of us is to arrive alive by #1 getting out of the way as soon as possible. "For slower drivers like Germ and me." #2 Have a little patience for those who are in a greater hurry. And #3 Keep your cool, don't give anyone the finger... that doesn't help anything and remember there just may be a baby in that car you run off the road in a fit of rage. http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/right.html
I don't understand why people can't grasp 'get out of the left lane' and 'flow of traffic'. I think people are clueless or self-centered. It's like the numbnuts who merge into traffic on their own timetable. Hello... flow of traffic, speed up and move in... don't make everybody on the highway have to slam on the brakes so you can roll in, oblivious to the rest of the world. On the other hand, the people who tailgate and go nuts when you're clearly going much faster than the right lane vehicles and there's a line of cars in front of you... are ****s too. I think maybe they can't see around my truck so they think I'm just putzing around doing 75mph in the left lane just to hold them up. Also if you tailgate right on the azz of an 8' wide, 11' tall pontoon boat... there's a pretty good chance that the driver can't see you and feels no need to get out of your way. And while I'm ranting about drivers.. People who wait until the last possible minute to merge when it is CLEARLY marked that there is a merge coming up.. and then want to squeeze in front of you ...... SHOULD BE SHOT ON THE SPOT. On my way up to Chicago now. (second trip in three days... yay!) :D
What ticks me off is when I'm passing someone and I'm about to move back in the right lane and some jack wagon on my arse will dive into the right lane between me and the auto I passed. Cutting us both off. I drive about 100,000 miles a year for work and another 50,000 for personal driving and see everything. Risking a ticket and your life and others around you just to get there 15 minutes sooner is not worth it! Slow down and relax it's better for your health. Also buckle up I want to see you all back here after the Holiday.
