This is definitely the thing that ****** me off more than anything. I spend alot of time driving and I like to get from point a to point b as quickly as I can. When I come up to some one that is driving below the speed limit and just wont move no matter what it drives me absolutely crazy. Even if I am driving faster than anyone once I pass some one I move over and leave the fast lane open in case some one wants to pass me. Today there was a *** hole in the fast lane going 50 in a 60 zone. He just would not move over and did not care how many cars were behind him. Even when there was a chance to move over he did not. When I got behind him I moved over enough so he could clearly see me in his side mirror. That is when he gave me the finger, I though nice he is causing a major back up but I am wrong. I wish they made it legal to these people!
That's one of the things I miss about Germany. You get caught in the passing lane not actively passing someone, you get a hefty ticket.
I agree 100%, I also hate the S.O.B's. that will pull out in front of ya and drive 40-50mph in a 55mph. and they wonder why people get road rage.
Driveinging in the cities? Drive like a a$$, they all do! Thats why i wont go there unless the wife makes me. I wont eavon go to duluth unless i have to. Country life , the only life.
It's a free country last time I checked, but Tfox has a rule I am not allowed to drive with him in KY. I drive to slow.
I'll let you drive only if I've been drinking. Germ is the guy in the passing lane driving too slow. Here you go Germ, it might be a free country but there are laws. From Wikipedia Common practice and most law on United States Highways is that the left lane is reserved for passing and faster moving traffic, and that traffic using the left lane must yield to traffic wishing to overtake. The United States Uniform Vehicle Code states:Upon all roadways any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic ... The Massachusetts Institute of Technology's website on "Keep Right Laws" points out that:This law refers to the "normal" speed of traffic, not the "legal" speed of traffic. The 60 MPH driver in a 55 MPH zone where everybody else is going 65 MPH must move right..."[SUP][3][/SUP] It is also illegal in many states in the U.S. to use the "far left" or passing lane on a major highway as a traveling lane (as opposed to passing), or to fail to yield to faster moving traffic that is attempting to overtake in that lane. For example, Colorado's "Left Lane Law" states:A person shall not drive a motor vehicle in the passing lane of a highway if the speed-limit is sixty-five miles per hour or more unless such person is passing other motor-vehicles that are in a non-passing lane...[SUP][4][/SUP] Other examples, such as Massachusetts (General Statute 89-4B),[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] New Jersey, Maine, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and others, make it illegal to fail to yield to traffic that seeks to overtake in the left lane,[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] or to create any other "obstruction" in the passing lane that hinders the flow of traffic. As a result, heavy trucks are often prohibited from using the passing lane. Many areas which make it illegal to fail to yield to faster traffic, also have exceptions to those rules. Some of these exceptions include preparing to make a left turn, taking an exit located on the left side of the roadway, avoiding traffic merging onto the roadway, or overtaking and passing another vehicle. A common problem arising from misuse of the "fast lane" is that it forces faster moving traffic that wishes to overtake on the left to change lanes, do so on the right, and then change lanes again. Further, if the vehicle misusing the passing lane is going slower than the flow of other traffic, it forces those using the middle "travel" lane (but who are moving faster) to pass on the right as well, even though they have no intention of doing so. A driver hoping to pass a slow motorist in the "fast lane" can be stuck in an awkward situation. One strategy is to signal a lane change toward the center median. Another is to flash headlights. A third, which sacrifices safety and is illegal, is to drive very close to the "fast lane" driver's bumper (this is known as tailgating). In Germany it is common to signal a lane change toward the center of the road, as if there were another lane to the left of the "fast lane". Most commonly, motorists will attempt to overtake the outer car on the inner lane either to continue at a fast pace or to pass a car that is simply going too slow in the passing lane. For high-capacity multilane freeways (three or more lanes per direction), many motorists often pass on the inner lane, largely in response to misuse of the "passing lane" by slower traffic.[SUP][citation needed][/SUP] In some areas, such as the U.S. states of Colorado and Kentucky, vehicles in the left lane are required to yield to faster traffic only if the speed limit is above 65 miles per hour. And still in other areas like Alaska, North Carolina, and Ohio, there is no law requiring slower traffic to move over for faster traffic.[SUP][3][/SUP]
Honestly, don't let them ruin your day. You never know whats going on in their life. If I feel they are endangering themselves or others I'll give them the horn when I pass them but other than that I TRY and I repeat TRY to say a prayer for them and keep on my way. If you really get that pissed at someone else for driving the speed limit or a little below then maybe your really already pissed about something else so think about that.that's just my personal experience. IMO
He was probably going slow because you wouldn't back off his tail. Nothing gives you the right to go beyond the speed limit. Slower traffic keep right means if you are driving below the speed limit, you should remain in the right lane. You may have to speed up occasionally to pass someone going slightly under the speed limit in order to do so safely. Just because you are in a hurry and think it is okay to get from points A-B as quickly as possible doesn't mean everyone else wants to race through life in the same way. Besides, I have nuts driving as you described, pass me constantly and when we get to the next exit or the next redlight, guess who I am sitting next to? My advice, though I am sure it is unwanted, is get yourself a nice book and hire a driver to get you there so you won't be a menace to other drivers. Yes, I agree, the guy going under the speed limit should have moved over but to let it ruin your day, dude... chill!
In my opinion, it's a lack of respect by the slow driver in the left lane. They know that the left lane is for faster moving traffic, but ignore that rule. Another thing that pisses me off is when a person passes another car at basically the same speed as the car they are passing. My response is always S**t or get off the pot. Just because its a free country, doesn't give you the right to hold up traffic and create a dangerous situation by having a bunch of cars all piled together going down the highway.
Posted speed limits are also known by drivers who ignore that rule. I wouldn't be in such a hurry to cast that stone. There's always someone driving slower that people with their cruise control set at 70 need to pass too. I agree they should move over as soon as they clear the vehicle they just passed and shouldn't stay in the right lane. However, tailgating and flashing lights in someone's mirror because they aren't passing fast enough for you is more than a bit disrespectful as well and no matter how many ***** you use, it will likely only result in slower drivers becoming very uncooperative with your need for speed. Why not turn on some Carpenter's music and enjoy the journey.
Next thing you guys will have government use their drones to blast slow left hand drivers out of the fast lane. For the record I never use the left lane, old people pass me, I am not in a hurry. I live in the right hand lane at 60 mph. Unless Todd is stepping on the gas pedal for me. I wonder how many accidents are caused by the right hand lane blockers compared to speeders, that would be some interesting data.
Last fall while commuting to st.louis I got behind a guy for about 5 miles in the city with 5 lanes of traffic in the fast lane doing the same thing finally i got to pass him on his right side and the guy was texting on his phone driving his king size suv. Here's the bad thing there was a town and country cop sitting on the over pass and i got a 130.00 ticket ended up over 300.00 bucks in court cost and a lawyer for passing on the right.
