Any Murano owners? Nissan general comments appreciated, too.

So, in a sense, it's a vehicle for Finch?

Vito, I only considered the Tribeca for size, and while my parents love their Subaru's, and everyone I know who owns one as well, the Tribeca seems to stripped down and vanilla for the price. Although I haven't sat in one, all of the Subaru's I've been in had very uncomfortable seats for long trips.

Was just curious. I've heard a lot of great things about Subaru's, and I believe most or all of them are AWD.

What, Gary, you don't love animals?

No, but Subaru goes out of their way to trash hunters IMO.

I've owned three Nissans in my lifetime; I wouldn't hesitate to sign a deal that mandated that my NEXT three all be Nissans...

I had a Nissan Sentra in college. Finally sold it a couple years after I got married simply because I was tired of it and wanted something different; it had over 280,000 miles on it and all I ever did was change the oil.

Had a Nissan Hardbody extended cab pickup... sold it just before I hit 300,000 on it (it had been my father's before I bought it off him with something like 175,00 on it). All either of us did was change the oil.

Currently driving a Nissan Maxima 3.5 SL for my personal car... I was initially using it for my work car in outside sales before I switched companies recently and got a company car again. I put 40,000 miles on it and all I do is change the oil.

The theme's pretty apparent from me... they have had ZERO maintenance issues for me, and -- besides those with the trucks, like Matt -- I really don't know anyone in my circle that HAS had issues with them.

They get a resounding endorsement from me.

I was awaiting your response, Greg. Good to hear someone putting high mileage on these vehicles. My biggest concern is with the CVT (looks like most of the problems reported with this model are associated with this...granted it was the older models).

The current Murano is still Japanese made, and assembled in the U.S. (many of their new lines are actually all domestic, this is one of the few that's not). I wonder how that factors into the equation. Not familiar with the manufacturer location of the Maxima or Frontier.

I was going to suggest the subaru line, except, for the price difference, you can add AWD to any of the vehicles he's considering.

About the VW Matt, I had a jetta before my honda and I loved that car. I put a lot of miles on it, never had an issue with it, and it (by far) had the most "options" at the price point. Things like heated seats, heated mirrors, etc etc. VW has come a long way in reliability. Only need regular maintanence every 10k miles (oil, etc). Very nice cars. If you're thinking about the VW, I would have it high on the list. :)

A girl I work with has a murano. She leases it, but I'll ask her this weekend how she feels about it.

Sorry! She didn't work last weekend, and I still haven't worked with her this weekend. Someone was just talking on the phone with her, and she said she loved her murano. However, she now drives a Rogue. So take that for what it's worth. Have you made a decision yet?

I've been working in warranty in the automotive field for years, recently changing to industrial.
I absolutely would not buy an audi or volkswagon unless you don't care about money (some people don't). The audi is amazing and the Q7 is easily one of my favorite on the road, however, the maintainance costs are just ashtonishing. Same can be said about the land/range rovers.

Myself, I would buy a new explorer. Ford warranty is awsome, they WILL take care of you.
Chevrolet, ehh, i'd shy away. I think they're coming around, but customers have had issues getting their vehicles covered under warranty due to the government takeover.

Toyota / lexus - The highlander and RX are basically the same, lexus is simply the luxury version of toyota. Toyota makes a good auto, but I don't trust them. I think they are much more picky on warranty as well.

Honda / acura - If the crv and pilot don't do anything for you, have you looked into Acura? Like lexus they are simply the luxury version of honda. They have great vehicles and run for a very long time.

Jeep / dodge - The new jeep cherokee is AWESOME, but I'm not a fan of dodge in general. They're getting closer but still rather cheap and quality not up to par with ford.

Nissan - I'm a fan. They have great motors, the awd on the murano takes on snow like a polar bear. If the cvt is fixed, these would be great.

BMW - see audi comments - uncle had one, after 2 months the battery went out, they would not cover it and it was $1000. It was in the shop much longer than on the road.

Kia - honestly, give them a look. They have come a very long ways and are really starting to turn some heads.

Subaru - I'm a HUGE subaru fan. Their drivetrain is simply awesome. The awd is one of the best on the market.

if you have any mor questions just ask. I realize these are my opinions, but like I said, I've been in automotive warranty for many years and I follow the reliability of brands very closely. Sure people will have good and bad experiences with certain brands but you must look at it from a birds eye.

Lastly, ask to see the warranty information. not the vehicle you're looking at, but on the model. Have them show you what their issues have been and are. If they won't show you this, chances are they're hiding something.

We looked at the Nissans. They were just to small for our family. We ended buying a Chevy Traverse and couldn't be happier. I will say the new Dodge Durango looks pretty cool. May be worth a look!
